Definitely badly messed up.
Decided to try it again for the first time since 1.2. My first negative game since 1.2...
Since uprising, every attempt to use the shotty has been a debacle of shots not registering at point blank, shots randomly hitting at medium range (usually not) and me dying lots.
It was my favourite weapon by far in Beta, with quite a bit of experience. I once made half the enemy team quit a skirmish match by using a shotty scout and ambushing them constantly, so I know its not (all ) me thats faulty, though I do have some pretty random game performances even with the best weapons. |

Sir, what in the hell are you smoking? The only time this is applicable would be if it WAS a head shot or a point blank shot 1-2 feet away. Well, the shotgun has a very limited range, it needs to be dead on target (as in actually hit the target, not in a random location within several meters of its feet, and is very visible getting into that location. If you manage all those, you deserve the kill.
The flaylock? Well, from quite a long range it can be fired at someones feet (several meter splash radius), and obliterate them instantly if medium to low hitpoints, then there is 2 other almost instant shots waiting. Its also a sidearm not a primary, yet seems to have as much, if not more, damage potential than a grenade launcher. The fact that it is used by many as a primary weapon and the light weapon is treated as a secondary says it all.
I'm not going to rehash the whole massively public debate again, but there is absolutely no comparison in weapons or skill levels required to use them, especially to get into a killing position with one.
Edit for clarification: I'm not necessarily saying the shotgun as such requires incredible skill to use, it doesn't, but to get into that perfect position to use it, yes definitely. |

I only recent started using Shotguns, post-1.2 and it's only a little buggy. I say that as I feel the ridicule/spread animation isn't lined with the actual shot ever so slightly.
But as for being underpowered, no it's damage is fine. That being said I've only been using Militia and Standards Shotguns.
My only complaint is that I feel the Breach Shotgun should have a faster fire rate between it's two shots.
Its not damage we are complaining about - its the hopeless hit detection that is greatly exacerbated by even the slightest lag (there is no spread on the shot?).
Use it for a bit longer and see how you feel after a week. |
