So in most games there really isn't all that much of a "picture frame" around the screen and that's either down to the fact that player don't like having their full situation awareness closed down, or because devs think that most modern helmets don't constrict view all that much.
But with Dust CCP has the opportunity to do some really wonderful and unique things with the game that no one else has done yet.
Imagine if every racial suit had is own designed mask view, ala Metroid Prime or Interstellar marines with the current HUD built into the design in a manner befitting the racial group that players suit belongs to.
That would be an incredibly immersive feature that would make this game absolutely fantastic IMO, but again I'm not a hardcore FPS player.
What you guys think about it. Would you hate it because of the reduced situational awareness or enjoy seeing a new feature in a competitive FPS title? |

Well this is a future based game i don't see why not i think that would be pretty cool that each class and each race had its own hud system. |

A long time ago I suggested that the HUDs of dropsuits varry on color and design based on race since different races would have different operating systems, its on their roadmap now. I don't think the shape of the helmets will or should affect the field of view though since we don't see through the helmets, our helmets have cameras that send the visual info to screens inside the helmet with data from sensors overlayed on top. |

I also mean a view point from inside a helmet which kind cuts of the very outermost reaches of your view but makes more sense for a merc to be fighting from behind. |

I know what you're saying, but what I'm saying is that we don't see through eye holes that kind of blocks the edges of our vision. We see with cameras on the outside off our helmet that relay the information back on a screen inside the helmet. |

Pretty much there are built in cameras on the sides of our helmets and we are seeing just 1 hud in front of us inside our helmets. |

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of Halo-esque variation in the HUD design, but I think we should at least be able to choose between the current one and race/suit-based ones, if only to keep folks from complaining that they don't like the way theirs look. Imagine the complaints threads if the Minmatar design gave some advantage, imagined or otherwise, due to its shape. |

Basically they could do what Bungie did for halo3, subtle but a nice touch, and do it for a half dozen or a dozen helmet variants. Yeah I'd like that. |

Might be interesting too to make the variants exist as your suit upgrades. Basics have very little info, Proto shows more because, hey.. it costs more.
Also, wouldn't think the outer edges give much info as is on the screen. I say go for an interior helmet design |

True one thing that I definitely feel should be apapted into the HUD is a Compass at the top of the screen, sometimes its difficutl to call directions of enemies without having designated a North or top point. |

If that would happen that mean gallente suits will see four of everything cause they have four eyes. |

Not necessarily, as previous players have said there are probably sensors and cameras all over the suit however I still think a general interior helmet over view though slightly modified for each race could be implemented.
Gallete- Rounded corners, green hud Caldari- Sharper corners, blue hud, plain metallic interior Amarr- Ornate Gold Interior, yellow HUD, etc Minmatar- Red HUD, scrap metal/ rust, etc |

Wait just a second. If we are looking through cameras, can I get a rearview mirror? But yes I like the idea unless it blocks the feild if view. |

Dude, sweet idea. I would like to see the kill count on the upper-right corner GONE. Our little maps on the upper-left reduced to a new format involving the helmet. Kinkdof like Pilots who have all their info on their visors (the thing that covers their eyes.) c'mon every fps has the same radar thing on the same spot. The ammo count on the lower-right can also be gone, and instead have the number of bullets left displayed on the gun itself (dead space). Yeah, I'm thinking hardcore here. Don't get me wrong, we can have all the info we NEED, but in a new, innovative format. |

One big screen inside the helmet would be pretty difficult to look at since it would be right up against our faces, so it's more likely two small screens in front of our eyes which would create a 3d effect to maintain depth perception...
OR
we have a direct neural link to our suits much like capsuleers to their ships and the image is fed directly into our brains! Yeahhhh, that sounds cool. In any case, I agree with what someone else said above about having more of an AR display with the ammo count attached to the gun and what not. Maybe even display info about our squadmates like their shields and armor. |

Yeah a holographic/ mentally projected ammo could and various other types of menu's and HUD options built itnot he world as if being projected by our implants would also be nice, though I still think and general internal view from within the helmet would be nice, for those of you who don't know Metroid Prime and Interstellar Marines do this amazingly and Interstellar was actually what give me the idea. |

The thing is that those games did it for immersion because the characters are actually looking through a visor. We're not looking through visors so if anything it would break immersion. It would be cool if the HUD took a second to boot up when you first spawn though, or maybe scrambled a bit for a second if you took a large amount of damage all at once. |

True and I feel Dust should go for immersion over standard session based shooter play since other mainstream games will always do that better. |
