Actually, I think Dust 514 it's pretty boring for a casual gamer or a noob. Why? Because probably he will never join a great corp or, if he does, he will probably never play a Planetary Conquest battle in New Eden because he can't use proto armor/gear.
If someone is playing just for fun, after a couple of games he will probably be bored because any pub match can be summarized to a straight slaughter (and also the gameplay is not very nice or frenetic as in many other games). You just enter, kill somebody, maybe you will take an objective or two and then the game ends... You can't earn anything else except you ISK and SP reward (and maybe an useless savage).
The game would be more enjoyable if you can earn something cool to show your friends or maybe to frighten your enemies (even if it is basically useless). I'm talking about pins, ribbons and medals.
- Pins could be earned if you achieve a small goal in a game: for example, by achieving a 5 enemy streak , 5 headshots above 100 meters, 15 kills with a certain type of weapon, let 3 team mates spawn on your beacon or CRU and so on.
- Ribbons could be earned by completing hard goals without the restriction to a single game, such as earning 50 ribbons, winning 50 games as a defender or as an attacker and so on.
- Medals could be earned by completing very hard or almost impossible goals, such as playing 50 hours with a specialised armor while having a KDR above 2 while using those amors, being the MVP (Most Valuable Player) 50 times and so on.
Other cool stuff to show could be armor customisation, but you can earn a new piece of armor by achieving a certain goal. For example you can earn a new "sniper" helmet by killing 10 enemies with a headhost above 400 meters, or maybe you can be trolled and earn a damaged armor with scars, bullet holes and burns if you are so unlucky to get killed 5 times in a row without killing anybody else (or dying 10 times within 10 seconds after the cloak turns off).
Those rewards would be also more enjoyable if you can also earn an ISK or a Skill Point bonus (it would be better the last one, because an decorated soldier is often a skilled one) based on the difficulty of the task completed, so you will have another reason to play. |
