At some point during Fanfest I was sure I heard mention of EWAR as a future for this game. Now I understand that is not core content features and not being considered for a while and so this is why I thought I'd lay out some ideas for it now.
So as far as I am aware EWAR in EVE is primarily non-combative, usually tracking disruption, or the distruption of a ships systems so as to de-buff the enemy ships combat effectiveness to a point where a weaker ship can overwhelm the target.
In Dust however we are fighting on the ground so the general EVE template cannot necessarily be transferred over to us. It is my belief that in future build EWAR should become its own speciality, with larger scale games demanding players make use of EWAR in certain situations, and thus I believe that EWAR in Dust should also be non-combative (AKA not about utter destruction) and focus on the distruption on enemy personell and vehicles.
Thus Scanning and Scan Profiles should really have a lot more to do with the game than they do now.
My current Ideas primarily manifest through equipment options for players, meaning that logisitics in future will have to choose between being a combat medic or a core EWAR player and cannot achieve both, equally assaults and scouts can also choose to fulfil EWAR roles to some degree.
Target Marking and LInked Sensors- A type of equipment item that allows EWAR players (in this case scouts) to mark or call locations of vehicles, snipers, installations, and more to his or her squad (note only squad not entire team) by making use of a system that allows them to lock onto a target (much like issuing attack orders now but with a lock on period) that illuminates the target for several seconds. A module type such a linked sensors could allow EWAR players to share each others scanning and visual detection information with one another so that squad mates could essentially act as scouts of the main force an high light primary or danger targets ahead of the main team perhaps this would allow other squads to share and receive such information allowing for co-ordination between squads and less logi emphasis on Tanking.
Turret Disruption Projector- If players remember battlefield 3's small homing dart gun this would work in a similar manner however the EWAR player in question would have to shoot the target vehicle (either get close to a tank or hit a LAV or Dropship) this would leave the small dart in the hull of the target vehicle. This would not show anything immeadiately to the vehicle driver unless they saw the dart hit the tank. At the EWAR players convenience, assuming they are with a certain range of the tank, they can begin a hack of the tank, upon successful hack the tanks turrets would over heat, save for missile turrets which would require no heat build up. They would then have to cool down afterwards before firing again. After which time the dart would decay and then have tp be set again. If the logi should die before the hack is complete or the dart itself be destroyed then nothing happens.
TACNET Disruptors- Small deployable assets that scramble the oppositions mini map info either generating random re dots or installations, or tank signatures, or removing it from visibility while the soldier is in radius of one. Range could be between 25-35 m with varients that extend that but more weakly, or have small ranges and remove the mini map entirely.
Stasis Webifiers- Small Energy Projectile Guns or similar to repair tools, these Webifiers slow down vehicle movement speed as long as the webber is in close proximity to the vehicle, could be used to slow tanks trying to retreat, catch LAV's, or even lock dropships to low altitude so that AV can hit them. It woulds essentially leave the webbed open to the opposition as they could not defend themselves while webbing and have low range forcing player to get right up on the vehicle they target.
Hacking Jammers- Small Dart like thing (yes I like darts) or deployable assets that slow down the hacking of assets in the area, both friendly or enemy, similar working to TAC NET disruptors.
So those are some thoughts. I'll edit with more as I come up with them. Sounds interesting though doesn't it. |
