Hey people, I hope you're enjoying 1.2 because it is awesome... unless you're a scout lol.
So I really need to move to a medium frame Dropsuit, right now, and just hope something will be done for Scouts in the meantime, because I doubt we will see many of them anymore... unless they get some love. I decided to have hope (...) and play a different momentary role instead of quitting the game.
So, the question is:
I got 700.000 SP.
I could get high tier Basic gear pretty fast, while it might takes 3 months to get the equivalent Assault suit.
But Assault Suit bonuses seem terrible. Does it worth the SP?
I don't know why Logi's have better bonuses, better versatility, better everything. Logi definitely would not reflect my role, unless I exploit the suit (like many players) to make it work like a Super-Assault suit. But then I'd be scared to have them nerfed (that can possibly happen). This game already trolled me several times, so I don't feel like going for Logi...
Any input will be much appreciated.
Thank you! |

The assault variants generally aren't worth it.
Do you know which racial suit you plan on speccing? |

I've not decided yet, I might choose Gallente or Caldari either. As a Scout I haven't fully upgraded armor and shields, so my path is not certain...
I guess chances are they're not going to give better bonuses to Assault suits, huh? |

What do you anticipate your playstyle would be for a medium frame suit? Run and Gun solo or with a squad? More stationary point defense? Anti vehicle or infantry focused?
How do you want to get your WP? Kills, assists, hacking....? Do you want to be a pilot (I guess forget about WP, then....), you could do that and keep your 'scout' fit....
I've played as a logi on an alternate character and I can tell you that it's way more enjoyable than a scout when I am playing with a team because I can actually support the team and stay with the squad. If you go logi for versatility and it gets nerfed, playing a logi as a (gasp!) logi is actually a good time!

The minmitar assault is definitely worth it. Maybe not to get both skills to lvl V because that 10% on the shield recharge just won't be worth the SP for a good while but the extra clip size on sidearms is amazing. Extra round for flaylock is beastly and if that gets nerfed you'll have 100 round clips on your SMG.
I think it's worth it, although I didn't dump the 2.5 million SP in it until my optional respec just to make sure. I don't regret it as it's useful now and I feel confident there won't be nerfs heading my way. The suit is awesome due to it's 5 high slots, crazy speed and high CPU/PG. It doesn't have the tank of the other suits but with smart play the thing is beastly. |

Basic G-1 (ADV) or gK.0 (PRO), if this is your main. Gallente racial bonuses will be well worth it. The public opinion has not been too kind to them, but with some further balancing inbound on shields, the 250 base armor is pretty sweet. Honestly, the best thing I've done in this SP tree was maxing out my core skills (Armor Upgrades, Shield Upgrades, Electronics, and Circuitry, etc.) So now when you get that drop suit candy you can properly outfit it.

First of all thanks for all the answer!
Second: @ Matticus:
Sometimes I play solo but I mostly enjoy playing with my squad. In my squad I'm often the Squad leader and I had generally two roles as Scout:
-Call-out-everyone-everything Sniper: I still can do this, it is unaffcted.
-Area denial shotgun Scout: I have serious problems for this right now. I used to play defensively to protect the objective, hiding and flanking incoming enemies.
As for medium frame suit playstyle, I like position war and mid-range tactical combat. I love the TAR and that's the weapon I generally use when I'm not a scout. Unfortunately I have just the ADV basic, the rest of my SP is into Gallente Scout.
So I like to get WP by kills and assists (tons of assists with the TAR) and play defensively to protect an area. That's my go-to with Medium suits. Particularly if I'm with my squad. I also like to help my teammates near the objective with a nanohive or dropping a RE to protect a cannon.
When I'm alone I might consider to run the GEK for a better personal survivability and be ready to run and gun.

I just don't understand why you have to restrict yourself... Go EVERYTHING.. Scout, Assault, and heavy, but only advance to Proto gear with you favorite class... after that, focus on Passive core skills. |

First its important to note the assault/logi suit variants are cheaper than the "medium frame" suits. Basically, the low cost and comparable performance of the militia suit to the basic medium suit or basic assault suit means that I generally encourage people to figure out which militia suit they like and then try out the basic suit just a few times but then quickly put in the skillpoints for the assault variant.
for gallente, you can run the militia medium frame and decide if you like 3 lowslots. If you do, the gallente assault is basically that with an extra highslot. For an armor-focused suit, the extra highslot is nice but doesn't change the gameplay much (particularly as you don't get extra cpu for whatever you put there). The gallente logi seems not very good compared to other logi at STD level, but looks to be quite good at ADV level. I can understand that for other races, the extra slot from militia to assault is a bit more noticable.
Lastly, regarding logistics, keep in mind that until you get a lot of skillpoints, the assault suit has much better survivability and offensive capability than the logi suit, and should be your go-to for general use, countersniping, and AV. Its easy to neglect this and make your choices based on what you'll be doing at the proto-level. |
