So, I'm playing around with fits for the new Commando suits, and I decided to try out a really cool concept to me called 'Hybrid Sniping'. This is the idea that you're a versatile Assault/Sniper Hybrid. I've already tested this prior to 'Uprising 1.2', and it's... Pretty amazing. Here's a scenario I've been in before, while running solo, before 1.2 released:
I basically ran SMG/SR on an Amarr Basic suit, with no modules or grenades. I'm running around, just using my SMG as an Assault weapon, and I'm doing pretty well. The moment I get sniped, I run, try to determine where he was (Using the red marker), and then snipe him. 8/10 times, he'd be an easy shot, as long as I knew where he was, and I could line up a headshot quicker than him. Of course, it takes a considerable amount of focus, because you'd sometimes forget that you're more Assault than you are a Sniper, so you'd just sit in a high-traffic area, attempting to kill people with a Sniper Rifle.
Honestly, the Sniper Rifle is so you can be a little more useful to your team. If your squad-mate says, "Hey, there's a Sniper up in the hills. _____, could you take that out?", then that just means that you're being THAT much more useful. Keeping the hills clear, as well as the ground.
So, here's the suit.
1x A/1-Series Commando Dropsuit 1x Complex Shield Extender 1x Basic Armor Repair 1x Standard Sniper Rifle 1x GEK-38 Assault Rifle
This suit is kind of forced to Shield Tank, as it needs something for Armor Repairing (To survive a Sniper round and not make any permanent sacrifices to armor). I ha to work with this quite a bit to fit all the CPU/PG into the suit, and came up with this. This is assuming you have NO SP into the Core Skills, so even the SP Cautious can use this suit. Love to you guys.
The Shield Extender is to give you a little more tank, but it's not much. +66 HP and whatever it is with the bonus. Still works great though! :D
Armor Repair is so that first sniper shot won't leave you with a scar. You need to know where a Sniper is. You don't need to give yourself a sacrifice that could kill you in the long-run.
Well, that's the fitting, the purpose, and etc. Read below for my thoughts on the Commando, and why I think it's a good suit (Although it did get a pretty troublesome pre-nerf...), and I can't wait to see more Commandos out there! |

Actually I used this after Hybrid sniper. It's pretty great. I don't remember all of my battles, but on every battle I kept up a KDR of 2.00+, and here are 3 battle stats, but best to greatest.
23/4 (I have no idea what the other team was doing, but I'm still awesome). 16/3 15/4
It's a real kicker to the enemy sometimes though. They're thinking "Oh a shotgun, I'll just back off!" and that's when the AR comes out. I'll be doing some more testing this morning though, so don't spec into anything just yet. :P |

.. oh wtf am i saying. why are you using this suit?
Because of the endless posibilites! and my excellent imagination helps with that.
Plus, it's just a beast suit if you can use it correctly. Notice the 23/4 above. I used nothing but the suit, and fit with a Nanohive to be a bit more independent? It's a little bit OP in my hands. Note I'm also using Militia Gear and the Standard Suit (No modules!) |

I would pair it with an Assault Rifle, but if you could be a little more specific, that'd be great.
If it's a PURE AV character, the newbie would pair it with another Swarm Launcher. Sadly, the battlefield is unpredictable, and you may be attacked. At which point, I'd pair it with an AR, Plasma Cannon (If you have good aim and lots of practice...), or a Scrambler Rifle. Pretty much anything that's med-short range.
So my vote: Assault Rifle. I'll do some testing later, and see if anything beats it. :) |

Did some more testing this morning (Sadly, deleting the character after I get some testing done for the Swarm/AR combo. I figure if I like the suit so much, Ghost can skill into it), and I recommend it. It's still really a great thing to use, because of the reasons above. :D |

Wasn't only in Academy. The 23/4 was in a Skirmish outside of Academy. Some of the others however, were inside of Academy. I can confirm this is a good suit (OP, as well as the Shotgun/AR). :D
And Dual Plasma Cannon? I can ask my colleague, Schenayneigh McBob (Or however you spell his name...), if he could test that. Assuming he has specced into Commando suits, but I actually think he's been getting some download errors... I could test that though, I'm all specced in and ready to roll.
EDIT: Just realized you were joking about the Dual-PC thing... Still doin' it! :D |

Yup. That's just how I do.
Earlier today I got 3rd place (Or something high, I can't remember exactly. Definitely top 3) because I was sniping in CQC. My friend and I were going to a building to snipe, and my ship crashed. Ran into a couple Shotgunners, a Caldari Assault, and while it was quiet, I sat down in a small place where I could see an entire group of Forge Gunners.
I hope that teaches them to have 6 people Forge Gunning. They lost because not enough people were going to hack. |

Believe it or not, I'm not an official instructor for BSoTT. Bojo is slacking (No idea where he went, but he's gone...), so I'm trying to pick up the ball. I just thought I'd take up the rings and do some teaching to newberries.
Sorry for the late answer btw, I've been away, trying to cap out (Did it! :D).
Worth it? I think so. It has *limitless* potential. Great Anti-Sniper fitting (Finding a Sniper, you can either Snipe back, or go up and get him where he can't compete, CQC w/ Shotgun). Or a great Sniper fitting. You can PREVENT people from catching you off-guard in CQC with a nice and handy Shotgun.
It did, however, get a good pre-nerf (As stated a couple times) because of no Grenades and low module count. However, I did just fine in the Standard suit without Grenades, and only Militia weapons. It's all about finding a good combination, and then hoping you have a good aim. It's also a very tricksy Hobbit, because you can deceive people with your weapon, and while they get out of range and think, "Heh, this guy's dead meat." you can pull out your secondary and gun them down (This happened much too often while I was testing my Shotgun/AR combo).
As a Sniper? You'll become pretty great. You can have Uplinks on a fairly durable suit, be more resistant to some weapons with the Dual-Tank ability (Although you'll be forced to Shield Tank, to make room for Repairs and Biotic Modules). Say you're off sniping, and a little Assault is taking a stroll in the hills. Once he sees you, you'll be dead (Unless you're a boss at no-scoping). Pull out an ASSAULT RIFLE, and you'll most likely win (Unless he's a C-Logi with a Duvolle. Then it's a matter of skill...).
Disadvantages? Lack of Grenades makes you a big, red target sign for Murder Taxis. Shield Tanking being the only option (Unless you don't want to regenerate or have a nice Biotic boost...) is a bit of a bugger. Give players more options! Other than those things, it's about as fast as my Gallente Logistics, that used Ferroscale plating. Can actually jump more than 3 inches, unlike the normal Heavy suits, and is (Like the description states) VERY Versatile. |

SCAR/MD sounds better than the Laser Rifle/Mass Driver combination me and my colleague thought of. Would help more with CQC, as the Mass Driver can be a bit... Suicidal. At times.
I dislike any AV except for Forge Gunning and (Depending on the vehicle) Plasma Cannon. I find Swarms to be useless in my hands, and they have no yet made another AV weapon, so that's on stand-still until I can pick up a Minmatar AV weapon, or something that resembles Heavy Artillery (I expect Minmatar AV to be a huge Rocket Launcher, capable for AV and AI, but does extra damage for Vehicles (Skill Bonus right there). Like the Forge Gun. You CAN kill people with it, but unless you're sniping, it's unlikely.
I also expect the Rockets to have a curve to their fire. Like... Thing Rocket Launchers in Halo. I'd love to see a blueberry (Or just a squadie, I have some amazing friends...) fire a Rocket and then accidentally catch it after it makes a full circle. |

They definitely will be, but you have to remember to make CPU/PG room for 2 Light Weapons, and Reactive/Ferroscale plating is very heavy in that area.
It would work here though, but you'd take more time in between battles, unless you have Prototype and you take 2 Reactives. :) |
