Why not? If it helps some people with frame rate and texture loading then it's a welcome addition |

Yeah I have to say this is an interesting option to have on a console shooter. Nice implementation if it helps peoples current problems. |

It's a bandaid more than a fix honestly, but I guess I'll take it. Smooth FPS is better than smooth textures IMO. |

Cool! Does this improve the framerate?

I like this, at least we dont have to go to 480p just to prevent FPS Drops. |

Better this than 480p on a ps3 game...I'm not sooooo hardcore to play a game on 480p in a full hd console. |

Hey, I understand the "wtf" here but it's not running off a DVD and we do have some folks playing in more remote regions with less than stellar connectivity.
FFS, it's a choice, quit complaining over **** that doesn't require a complaint. |

we add the option mainly for these reasons: . we met some strange performance issues on first generation PS3 with slow hard disk. The possible solution is to format the hard disk or replace the hard disk . Here we provide another solution to players, they cano slow down the texture streaming to help the performance with slow hard disk . . we get some report from players , the SD version can get better frame rate. You can also gain some performance by changing the screen size in option menu. It's kind of unfair for HD players, so this is provide HD player an option to improve the performance. the frame rate is affected by many factor (network , voice chat, ) , even with the same hardware PS3 , it's difficult to let all the players get the same performance. .more visual preference option , we could specify the effect can be turned on or off in future according to people's preference . there are some game provide the similar options on console. |

I don't remember playing this game in 720p anymore, thats how long ive put up with 1995 Dust graphics to at least get proper framerates, these new settings i am gonna try out tonight.

Its an FPS game without any FPS and FPS foremost, console is just that the platform second, on PC they are not going to discriminate between someone with a Tripple SLI 780GTX or someone sporting an old budget card, your next console the PS4 is more like a PC then whatever, intime i wouldnt be surprised youll be able to swap out GPU units someday.
Everyone here at least has the same options, either play with eyecandy or play with FPS, your choice really, seeing this is an FPS ill take the crappy look anyday.

I got one of those early fat models of a PS3, lotsof issues witch a friend of mine does not have and i tried playing on his PS3 and its smooth as hell, where mine is dodgy as crap, if i knew buying a new one solved all of my issues i would have but then some people with newer versions also have issues where others dont have any.
I had to reinstall Dust Bi-weekly to keep my performance up in 480p or enemy hitboxes would pretty much disapear.
I hope this fixes some issues. |

You can also just install a laptop SSD, works wonders. But even with a 7200RPM laptop HDD, i've got nothing to complaini about :) |

I followed some of those SSD installs + tests and they netted no increase in performance on a PS3 Fat, either FPS or load times for games it was tested on, it was spot on the same time & FPS, ive got a spare SSD sitting around but not fancy using it if it yields no benefits. |

Perhaps a bit off topic but ... While it's not true for all SSDs, many provide the greatest benefit when loading things in sequence. With DUST 514, with a new install of the game to a disk that had enough room to put the whole game in order on the disk, an SSD will make a noticeable difference in the length of time it takes to get into a game at the start. It will make some, but much less difference, in the running game.
Sounds like a lot of "if this, then that" kind of stuff? Yeah, it is. YMMV |

I was going to suggest this months ago, but I didn't because I didn't think you'd manage to get this setting through Sony's QA. I'm glad you did and I would like to encourage you to keep these settings. Maybe even increase the spread between the lowest and highest setting. I could definitely do with some lower level of detail in exchange for more frames per second and less content streaming.
Maybe even reduce the maximum LOD additionally to increasing the negative slope of the LOD-to-distance curve.
... Do you know what competitive Quake III Arena players set their game to look like? That's about what I'm looking forward to. |

Thanks for the options! These are the sort of things that console games lack to their detriment, IMO.
It's nice to have it. |

I believe this implies to people using a SD vs HD. I have mine if full setting. But I haven't tried the difference between each settings. What I notice is the gameplay is much smoother and less clunky. Now, they just have to improve the hit detection. The turning speed is what kills me the most. The strafing speed is ok at this point.

If you have a variance in HDD or display performance, wouldn't it make sense more sense to use the lower limit as your development standard? I can already hear the forum whining about people turning off all effects so they are able to spot enemies more easily (because they're not obscured by effects, lightning) and so on. It will happen. |
