I am a die hard air pilot and I won't stop bring up jets. I know that they are coming. It's not a question of if but when. So until they get here pilots and everyone else must create some of the base foundation.
From the dropship we have learned a lot of things about flying in dust.
1. Forge guns hit like an ******* 2. So far there is no chafe to stave off missiles 3. Tanking shots is the only way to survive in a vehicle 4. Ground can see air and hit air from a mile away but air can't see ground 5. Maps are to small but this won't be the case forever so when jets are introduced also introduce bigger maps 6. Air needs to hurt quick and get out fast with little risk, and by little risk I don't mean taking 4 forge gun shots but dealing out a lot of damage fast. If they are made of paper fine but it will be the price we pay for power
That's about it
Please give some good criticism. |

And even when air is over ground, it can't see ground because our own ship blocks the camera. Derp
Just give up, forge guns will less than one shot jets and there'll be no other way about it. This is obvious since CCP decided the "Medium" air vehicles (DS) is to be less tanky than LAV's and only use light modules. What do you think a light air vehicle will be like?
~a joke.

I'm assuming that you flew jets in BF3. If you didn't have trouble with RPGs shooting your jet, you won't have much of a problem with forge guns shooting your jet.
The swarms might be a little more challenging if CCP don't introduce flares, but I'm certain they will. |

-XOXO I would actually have to say that there's a point to be made about forge guns vs. Jets, only because they are nothing like an RPG. Forge guns can fire across a distance of about 500 meters in 1-2 seconds give or take, an RPG would need to not only have gravity accounted for so the missle could travel that far, but also would take around 8-10 seconds compared to the 1-2 a Forge Gun needs to cover the same length. If a jet is traveling remotely near that forge gunner, he could have a very good chance at dealing some extreme damage instantly. It will be interesting to see how that imbalance plays out. |

I was in a game with a bunch of blueberries against you, Aldin, Regnyum and a few others. I was very sad because I only noticed your ADS at the very end, I so very much wanted to crash my Gorgon into it

I agree the only ineffective FG will be the assault. At some point that Jet is going to fly in a straight line and my Breach will be waiting all charged up. |

Forge guns have a range of 300m Swarms have limited lock on range (even proto) and a DS with a speed mod can out run them or climb high enough for them to burn out before reaching target.
Jets biggest enemy will probably be the new AA tank that is coming out soon and a rail tank whose pilot knows how to lead a target well. If you use the hover mode with one of the jets, you are asking to be hit.
Im betting that jets will come out when medium turrets are available. Hopefully, the pilot controlled weapons let you cycle between something such as a swarm launcher and a blaster.
The jet missles should do something around the range of a swarm and the blaster would be probably the same as a militia tank blaster at the proto level. It would mean that the jets' main focus would be AV but could do strafing runs in support with no OSK. |

You should have tried :P
I think I would have noticed you or Aldin or reg, but I don't recall seeing any two of you in the same match.
Anyhow the only time I get hit by gorgons is when I'm too drunk to maintain 100% situational awareness. Since apparently they don't show up on radars at all for me ><
Yes, I'll always remember the ONE suicide who got through. Totally unexpected. gotta keep that eye on the sky |

Hmm.....I find it hilarious that there are even air breathing vehicles in this game. Making anything jet related on an Unreal of any type engine is the worst idea in the long, sad history of bad ideas. At least vehicles I would even consider barely worthy to fly. And I've flown LOMAC from the inside of an actual F-15 simulator. Unless you can match that performance and expertise standard, please don't even try to bother. |

A cycling system, hum, like the the R2 weapon change on grunt units? I never thought of anything like that.
Also something that needs to be pointed out is that yes, DS and jets can fly away fast but they are still big fat flying targets with no way of engaging a forg gunner or swiarm missle user head on. The forge gun makes the machine go off balance messing up aim, that's assuming you tracked down the gunner hiding within a group of swarm launchers. I guess this goes to vehicle drivers working with grunts to do things the other cant. It actually interesting when you think about it, but for people who like me who choose not to play with head set its hard. |

No vehicle should be able to function outside of a unit as that would lead to it being overpowered. Vehicles and ground troops should work in unison. Its the same with tanks right now. A tank can be devastating when its paired with a solid squad but can be taken out easily with a concerted AV effort.
I really want to see fighter aircraft make it into Dust but I dont want them to be EZ Mode. Personally, Im a big proponent of exhaustible ammo. That once a vehicle is 'dry' it will need to head back to a garage/hanger or mobile supply depot unit to rearm before it can be effective on the battlefield again.
Forge Guns and Swarms will be there to make sure that a jet doesnt just go into hover-mode and camp kill.

I think the fighters will be medium or heavy air vehicles seeing as how they are larger then a tank. |

Jets will have a hover mode so that they can hover over vehicles and use the secondary weapon to pound ground targets they will also have a flying mode with a front gun which will be better suited for dog fights they probably wont be easy to hit because of their natural speed. I'm sure you could fit on an after burner and escape everything but another jet the only difficulty would be hover mode as you temporary make your self a target. You'll simply have to decide when it's smart to hover and then fly off quickly you shouldn't be able to easily hover and kill something easily anyways. Hmm maybe fighters will be effective at killing ground targets even when not hovering hmmm hopefully. |

omg a tiny Firbolg. Firbolgs that fight in space are about the size of cruisers currently, so I'm guessing this would have to be a special planetary version.
MFW 10 years from now Dusties can clonejump from their Warbarge to the hangar bay of a corpmate's carrier that's on a station, board a planetary fighter, fly down to the district being fought over, bomb a bunch of people, and fly back. Also, EVR, fighting in space. Gotta somehow deal with the fact that carrier fighters don't do much in the way of dogfighting and are much larger than what planetary fighters will be. |

sad to say i truely believe jets wont pack the punch needed to hit and run, like the ADS they will have to hover for a bit to cause enough damage to kill stuff thereby nullfying their role.
Now if they implement bombers well....i might be swayed to go back to piloting for now, ill just kick back smoke a cigar dipped in cognac and blow up dropships all day long in spite. |
