I know I can't be the only one that has been thinking about a permanent respec option, and with all the changes that have been done (and the ones that are to come) being able to respec at will should be something that is offered to all.
Maybe it could work like this: After CPP is done making any respec to weapons, dropsuits, vehicles, etc. it would be nice that after loading your character you get a message that reads something like "There has been some important changes on the specs of 'XXX'. Would you like to have your SP respec now?" Damn, it could even work if they just did it without asking the players, I mean if you liked what you had you can always expend your SP on the same skills.
I even think that many of us would accept paying in AUR to be able to respec at will, but if CPP respecs any part of the game, they should also do the same with the player's characters for no charge at all... or at least that is what I think.
What are your thoughts on this, comrades? |

I think paying aurum for a respec is fine. It'll increase their revenue which would help them develop other aspects of the game. |

If there are rebalances and modifications to the core of the game then they should respec for free. If not they should sell aurum bundles. |

only benefit if selling respecs for AUR is that it helps CCP make money off the game, thus they'll invest more into it. But I do think it damages the integrity of the game to do so. Furthermore, CCP should NOT give out respecs every time they tweak or rebalance things. If you maxed out some OP weapon/suit to the exclusion of all else, including important core skills, then you shouldn't get a respec just because CCP decided to change a few numbers and your flavor of the month build isn't all you signed up for anymore. |

TBH, i think respec is what keeps a lot of us going. I just hope that when there are changes or additions of suits etc a respec IS given. Because it wont cost CCP much and will keep us all glued to the game. , how many dead points are now in tac ar.... How many points will have been spent on flaylock this time around before it is balanced.
I am happy not to follow the 'flavour of the month weapons' but there are other aspects id love to respec.
Periodic respecs are only fair given changes. Im neutral on the aurum option. |

Sp rebates if changes effect you are realistic. Think of the work involved in offering everyone a respec if they change some stuff. It would put them off making changes as often as we would like.
Aurum respecs are good for them and good for us. |

they could make it like MAG where, after you reach a certain increment of WP (like every 20,000 WP) you can respec.
but respecs only work when all weapons are balanced otherwise everytime something becomes OP everyone will run it, and respec into it killingt= the diversity of the game. |

Ha, almost cross posted, oso, i see your point on the aurum option, does take away some integrity, but then again is that not always the case with aurum?
Regarding respecs, i disagree because the game is not complete. Many are waiting for races that have not been finished and only spec into something so they can compete in pc. Respecs are fair, the op weapon users are just exploiting CCPs mistakes, you cant really punish them for it ( though sometimes i dream of it )

I doubt it is a difficult process to automate, i dont understand why it was done on a request basis last time because that must have been labour intensive |

I don't think they should offer a free respec every time they make a little change, but for major ones or after there have been so many little changes that you could consider it as a big one. Though, I do think that a permanent respec option for AUR is the best for all. |

respecs right now would really help the game.
You guys keep thinking that everyone respecing to the flavor of the month will ruin the game? Its actually quite the opposite.
As it stands now we have this system that forces you to make a choice of whether or not you want to spec into OP flavor of the month or continue working on core skills. Now there is only a certain population of people who have specced into OP FOTM and are enjoying this overpowered weapon's status.. but the metrics aren't reflecting the nature of each weapon.
What CCP needs to do is (for a limited time) offer unlimited respecs of all SP, no limit whatsoever. Let the playerbase jump around from suit to suit, weapon to weapon. It will take days (instead of months) to notice which types of builds are being exploited because they are overpowered and the metrics will reflect it. They can adjust stats accordingly and watch everyone flock to the next FOTM build, adjust stats... and continue to do until there is no FOTM build anymore.
Then... once they feel they have balanced the current set of weapons and dropsuits, they do one last respec, tell everyone "this is it, no more respecs" and then we now have a balanced game to play with, voila.
With the current system this will never happen. Instead you have situations where you have weapons like the flaylock pistol, which is grossly overpowered.. but 10 bucks the metrics don't show anything, as people haven't had the time to divert SP away from what they wanted to spec into to get it. So the FP, will likely remain in its current state for a long time, just like any other overpowered weapon. It will take ages for the metagame to push into these guns, and they will remain in unbalanced states for far longer than they should.
Constant respecs may ruin the RPG aspect of the game, but it would extremely aid in balancing the FPS mechanics.
I guess the question really becomes... do you want this to be an FPS or an RPG? |

No, all of the other options have been beaten to death already.
Also, I meant, no respec. |
