I still am learning as a Scout, but is there ever really a point in getting the Proto Scout racial dropsuits when you are paper thin on defenses and can be killed pretty much instantly by anything if discovered? Been doing my fair share of dying during my learning curve but it occurs to me that I would have to either be really good or have a ton of money if I wanted to run everything proto as a scout. What do you other more developed scouts have to say on the matter? I'm curious to know.
If it makes a difference I'm doing the Minny Scout dropsuits with SMG's and Novas. |

It is worth while going proto for the fitting and bonuses that come with a fully maxed out proto suit. If your running proto knives on the proto scout suit then youll ohk almost anything. |

Minja. I'm already skilled up to the Adv suit, but not sure if it is worth it to proceed to proto. At the very least I plan on sticking with Adv for a while and build up my other skills. |

problem is people play scouts and go at it like an assault, yeah in some cases it works but people moaning that scouts are weak generally play them wrong, it's not a combat suit really. |

From what I have seen. Many people who run proto scouts focus on seed and repair mods in the low slots and a shield extender and mods to boost shield recharge. Like any proto suit it costs a lot to run and if you get good enough with it it will pay for itself |

There is nothing outside of combat for a scout right now, with one equipment slot they can't provide much support. So saying they are generally weak is correct because there is no other outlet than playing as a slayer. Scanning radius is also so limited that scanning extenders / profile enhancers and dampening no longer have any real effect. With less cpu/pg/hp/slots, its essentially lore and future expectations which keep us in the scout suits. Scouts are faster though, though the min assault gets close. |

+1
Since Uprising there is no scout role + as scout you do have to sacrifice so much for a decent fitting. I've skilled into proto minma scout but i run almost only adv because for tripple the price of the proto suit i become not much. The real difference is the cpu/pg not the one high slot you get. So if i were you i would skill into cpu and pg lvl 5 before proto suit. |

I run a basic gallente scout when I'm feeling like it with a basic shield extender, basic armor plate, and enhanced repper, and I don't feel paper thin at all. |

FWIW, I'm skilled up to proto and 90% of the time run ADV. The real advantage of skilling into a proto is the extra 10% to Knife/Melee as well as p dampening when you run the ADV suit (presumably). The proto suit just doesn't make a lot of sense to run cost wise as well as the CPU/PG is so low you can't run it properly with every slot filled. more expense and risk for less pay off really. You are only going to be marginally better than the adv suit. no speed buff either between suit tiers, so it starts making even less sense to run it because the purported strength of the suit is the same.

Whether Gallente or Minmatar, the quoted weakness remains at Prototype levels. Some have postulated that the upcoming ferroscale and reactive plates will lend CQC Scouts a substantial boost to survivability. I doubt strongly that this will be the case, as a Scout benefits more from stealth boosts, biotics and shield recovery than it would benefit from a slight increase to armor.
Just my opinion. And welcome to the fold, my Scoutly Brother. o7. |

CQC no, there really is not point in going up a level as the increase in CPU etc you will gain, won't offset the extra isk lost during the inevitable death.
Scout/Sniper on the other hand, the CPU and extra lows definitely pays for itself in increased stealth and better weapons/damage mods. Naturally this assumes a good KDR, otherwise its just pissing money against the wall, again. |

proto is for planetary conquest, really. but the bonus matters, so always train level 5 if a skill is worth getting. |

I'd say that it is worth it. However, you must have your priorities straight. As a Minmatar scout, your CPU and PG are pathetic, even at proto. It is more important to level up the three skills associated with CPU&PG. Once those are levels 4-5, then get proto Minmatar scout (but not for the proto suit, for the racial bonus). This will allow you to get the most out of your ADV scout suit.

Pretty much what others have said. For the minja it seems like the worth would be in the passive skills, getting the extra % to profile dampening, but mostly the extra % to nova knife damage. However, using the proto minja scout suit itself (as opposed to using the ADV suit, but with proto-level skills) only seems worth it if you want the extra 75 shields by putting a complex shield extender in the high slot, or the extra damage by putting a damage modifier in the high slot.... maybe if you need that extra edge.
For the Gallente, the 2 additional low slots over the ADV seem worth it (in addition to the profile and scan range bonus) if you want to add additional range mods, or kinetic catalyzers.....
My take is that if you are a superb scout, and need that extra edge for a particular battle, and want to achieve it by plunking down an extra 60k for the suit plus fitting cost.... well, it's then it's worth it. You'll probably know when you need that extra edge... |

Thank you everyone for all the responses and information! I will eventually take the proto levels for the bonuses at the very least as it seems like that is where the real worth seems to lay. At least at the current moment. Can't wait for those cloaking devices that I hear are promised! |

The point of Proto scout is to get more CPU & PG, so you can run higher tier equipment. So you can use stuff like proto Weapons and equipment, while still being able to get decent modules.
That's about it. |
