What kinda game are we playing?
In the engineering room on the warbarge, is there a bunch of hooded figures with pentagrams and candles chanting "Need more souls, need more souls" "We need you to kill 5 more people to power the soul cannon before it can be fired!"
Who thought up the idea that WP was needed to get an orbital strike? Does it really take souls to power these guns? I'm not sure I wanna play a game with cultist.....
Oh, but no.. You have to prove yourself before we will "Give" you an orbital strike.... To that I say. Look man, according to E3 2011, the MCC cost 150 Mill. You got a 150 mill worth of hardware down here and you can't 10 seconds from your busy **** session to type in some X.Y. cords and hit a button? If you are soooooo high and mighty that you can't be bothered, then when I get done with this mission, I'm going to come up there and shoot you. I'm immortal, you... are not.
But really...
Just send me the bill, how much is an orbital strike? Let me buy the bullets/missiles/crystals on the market and you take them and queue them up and fire them. Is that so hard? 200k a strike? Sure.. Put it on my Visa.

But Daedric, what about Balance? It wouldn't be fun to just have orbitals going off everywhere.
Why not have some cool things with sensor dampeners? Like, you don't appear on an orbital strike map.
In another thread I talk about some ideas for improving PC, why not have shield generators over capture points or on some vehicles like the Logi LAV?
Maybe have some additional warning depending on the area of the strike, intercepted communication that lets you know where the strike is coming down. Maybe it can be another thing on the battlefield that you can hack like a supply depot or a CRU.
What about in PC where there are 50 EVE ships waiting to drop 5,000 orbitals on the battlefield? Well, how about something you can hack that interupts the communication, EVE pilots just have to look at the map and see a bunch of red dots and just pick somewhere to fire. Maybe the shield deployable can take a Orbital hit before fading?
There are many many ways to balance stuff, what are your thoughts? |

I like alot of these ideas, aiming issues, a capture point for targeting. I don't like the squad idea, or the idea that to use this faeture means you need to go solo. There are only so many weapon slots on a EVE ship or the Warbarge (NOT THE MCC). Whether solo or squaded, only so many could possibly be queued up for the team. I like the idea of a bill for Warbarge strikes though, having different kinds of orbitals for different prices that you can invest in.
For me, there needs to be ways to get out getting hit by a orbital strike, be it shields or a warning time or being missed. Then, once you have determined how many ways you "can" get out of an Obs, then give all ships with Obs a cooldown rate based on how many Obs we want during a game. Currently I see about 4 per game, maybe more, maybe less. I would like to see Obs being a constant threat with the possibility of 1 per minute (For Both sides combined) at around 15 a game.
-Vehicles- However, terrain would need to be changed as well, vehicles need protection. You wouldn't want to spend like 1 mill on a HAV only to get it destroyed instantly. There would need to be more overhangs and cover to hide a vehicle. OR vehicles could be fitted with a emergency shield module that works kinda like the Immortal from Starcraft 2, that unit takes 10 Damage and no more, no matter how much more. Give the module a 5-10 second effect time and about 30 second cool down. That would also make AV more interesting as a HAV could absorb 1 shot every 30 seconds if they timed it right. Or vehicles could just be hardened to not take full damage from an Obs unless it was dead on.
-Capture Point- I like the idea of a capture point, a radar/signal scrambler which emits electromagnetic energy and disrupts targeting sensors. You have to capture it to allow your team to fire orbitals, maybe have more then 1 per match. Then, not only do we need to fight for Null Cannons to protect the MCC and CRUs and Depots, but now we have to fight for the jamming point to protect ourselves.
-EVE Skill- I also think skill should be involved, like an EVE player seeing red dots on a map instead of just clicking and accepting a request. If its a Dust precision strike, then let it be coordinated and precise, but make Dusties communicate with EVE players to try and bring the Obs to the right location. There could be other weapons and installations to assist or detract from it. A laser percision weapon that a squad leader might use to direct Orbital fire. Or maybe some sort of signal dispersion grenade which jams the jamming and allows clear targeting of an area, but the strike would be fairly close.
I dunno. But I'd like to see more and exciting ways of doing this. |
