Heavy is a frame, Medium and Assault are two separate suit frames, and the pilot suit will be the second T II light frame. The Commando is be a T II Heavy Frame.

Damn ok.
So it's going to be another slow fatsuit that can carry two lights. Was kind of hoping for something a little more exciting.
Plus wouldn't that now give the "heavy" frame three different types - heavy, sentinel, and now commando? |

No, heavy is not a role (just as medium and light frames are not roles), it's just a frame size.

Heavy is the frame; there is the generic frame, and then there is specialized suits: the Sentinel frame and the Commando frame.
There is also the Medium generic, and then the role specifics are the Assault and Logistics.
The Small frame has a generic, with the role specifics as Scout and Pilot (Soonish) |

This, but CCP sometimes confuses the issue by calling the non-base suits "roles" and sometimes calling them "specializations".
Essentially, the base suits are generic versions that don't have specialization bonuses that help them better fill roles, but all three Frame types will have three types of suits: the generic suit, and the two specialization suits. |

Anybody considering it needs to make sure they have enough SP to get to the ADV suit as a minimum in my opinion.
I assume you will need lvl 3 basic heavy and then lvl 3 commando to do this. If that is the case and you have nothing in heavy then you are talking about 820k SP. |

Yeah I have nothing in heavy...it's all in Amarr medium and assault (level V).
Oh well, I don't plan on speccing into the heavy frames or the commando for that matter, was just curious what frame it fell under. |

In EVE terms, This is T I (Tech 1), and T II (Tech 2).

For the lvl 1 Sentinel Suit you need lvl 5 Amarr Heavy Dropsuit Command (or as you called it "basic heavy")... I would venture a guess it will be the same requirment for the Commando. |

Yeah, I don't quite make sense of the use of the heavy frame either for the commando.
But, perhaps it's not the frame, but the name of the specialization. I think of commando's as being adaptable, mobile and deadly.... I'd think a commando in Dust would be an assault with a bit more speed (say, Minmatar medium movement rates), with the ability to equip 2 light weapons. That would be pretty brutal.... not that Dust needs much more love on the meduim frames. I guess low/high slots would need to be adjusted to balance....
Or maybe a light frame w/ the 2 medium weapons, similar to the "black eagle" dropsuits some folks have as rewards (not that they ever get used). Or a standard light suits w/ an extra EQ slot.... many options.
As it stands though the heavy/commando I'm sure will be a force to be reckoned with. Now the Forge/SMG guys can have a similar PlasmaCannon/AR variant..... And the AV options are much more versatile. |
