I personally like the cooking mechanic. It creates a risk/reward mechanism where you're forced to be exposed from cover with a giant golden arrow pointing at your location for any snipers, close-quarters-shotgunners, or flankers to pinpoint your position. It takes time to build up so you have to anticipate your attacks ahead of time, and encourages you to plan ahead. It requires you to burn through a good amount of ammo, which encourages teamwork via nanohives. I think the solution is to have the damage reduced (just slightly) early on in the heat cycle, and increase significantly when you're about to overheat (this needs to be carefully balanced of course and shouldn't be overpowered). In other words, make the damage output vs. time graph a steeper slope than is currently implemented.
We I would like to see a significant boost to range with a Laser Rifle Sharpshooter skill (yes I know it ruined shotguns, but AR's get to reduce their spread which effectively results in an increase in range for them, and this is both reasonable and necessary for the LR). In my mind, with max skills it could hit out to 120 or 130ish Meters. Still well shy of what snipers can pull off, but gives them an edge in certain tactical situations (I would be ok if this meant an even further decrease in damage at close range).
And of course I completely agree about the sights. They should have been hotfixed in the first week of Uprising when everyone abandoned the weapon. |

Echoist wrote:...Secondly for the love of god the laser rifle is NOT worthless I use it on most maps and i usually get about 15/3 when i get a map thats good for the laser rifle. The thing that i see what most people are having trouble understanding about the weapon is that its very situational and you NEED to know when to retreat to an open area and lure people to come after you. There no shame in retreating so that you can then regain your advantage. Also i would suggest to anyone considering to use the laser rifle is that you should position yourself ABOVE and AWAY from the frontlines.
Third pick your targets wisely unlike the AR this is not a spray and pray weapon its a precision LASER weapon. Si what does that mean you may ask yourself? Well it means that since the majority of players love to join the band wagon of going shield CALDARI (hint hint nudge nudge) then you're going to shred through their defences and when i mean shred that's an understatement i should say obliterate. How well would you have done if you had played the matches exactly the same way but with a TAC (the LR's counterpart) assuming you had equivalent gear and skills for it? There are many serious handicaps to the LR (as there should be) that the TAC doesn't have, but are there situations where the LR really shines and the TAC fails? I haven't seen any of them. It doesn't have the up-close range penalty, it doesn't reveal your location to everyone, it doesn't overheat, it does excellent DPS in the right hands, it's great against armor and shields, it doesn't require you to pop your head out of cover, vulnerable for significant periods to be effective, it can do damage quickly and not require you to burn through ammo heating it up.
So what situations are you happy you have an LR instead of a TAC? Where are it's advantages? The LR feels like the ugly step-sister to the TAC, instead of a niche weapon that can really outshine the TAC in certain tactical scenarios, while being limited in all of the other ways I mentioned. |
