DUST Fiend wrote: a potential Dual AR Commando, I have to say, it's currently looking pretty grim. There was supposed to be a Dev blog on the Commando out today, but it looks like we got the recruiter rewards one in stead (a bummer about not having more lolmando info, but the recruiter rewards thing is a step in the right direction) From what we've seen / heard, it's going to have quite a bit less HP than normal heavies (I saw 300/300) which is 400 less EHP (this may have been unmodified, we're going to have to wait to see the actual stats on the 2nd, since the devblog most likely will not divulge that). Apparently a dev has said on IRC that they will have the same speed as normal heavies. If so, this instantly cripples the specialization, for the simple fact that heavies are extremely easy to hit, and already go down pretty quick, unless fully tanked. The slot layout we saw was an insult (2 highs 1 low on Proto), and they opted to give an equipment, but steal their grenades. They took the boom booms. That's the most enjoyable part of DUST 514. So right now, you get to not be a Heavy, by forsaking the only reason to GO heavy (heavy weapons), and you are rewarded with no booms booms, crap hp, still slow as ****, most likely still can't turn for ****, can't fit for ****, can't jump for ****, oh...but dat REP HIVE bro. Just purchase some AURum today, since the majority of you are Heavy weapon heavies, and don't have light weapon skills. Better train up two, and don't forget that equipment now, ya hear? And this goes to all you light wielding baddies too. For a mere 3(?) Million SP, you can become a top of the line Commando. Just purchase some AUR today, and you can become the "Mercenary of Tomorrow"
2 light weapons just doesnt make sense/isn't fair for those of us who specced heavies for heavy weapons.
Therefore i propose Making one of the weapons slots a Heavy weapons slot. It isnt that much of a stretch, its really just upgrading the sidearm to a light weapon plus an equipment slot. The tradeoff? we get less ehp, less module slots, and all the old negatives of being a heavy (speed, turning, hitbox, etc). If we want to equip two light weapons guess what we still can because you can equip light weapons in heavy slots. (i roll SCR sometimes already). In terms of lore this would easily be explained that power was diverted from defenses and modules to allow an upgraded sidearm slot and the use of an equipment item.
In conclusion its fair to both old hands at the heavy and new guys speccing from lighter suits.
tl;dr: commando should have weapon slots, it makes sense, fair to both sides (heavy/med/light) since Heavyweapons slots allow light weapons. |

Also whats the real advantage of two light weapons when you cant effectively fit it anyways? Commando is slow as normal heavy (less tank). Even with mods less tank than Assaults logis (less tank). Must choose between damage mod or shield extender (either less tank or less gank). If anything but the new weightless plates will be slowed down more (les mobility=less tank/weaker plates=less tank).
Furthermore, besides swarm/Plasma cannon/sniper (yay for more campers to not help with objectives [whose dmg will suck with lack of damage mods]) whats the real difference between Running scrambler pistol/AR or SCR/SMG or scrambler pistol/MD which can have more gank or more tank?
I will grant non-trailer stats haven't been released but look at a proto assault or logi and compare it to roughly 550 hp 1 hi and 2 lows. |

Because 1 Heavy and 1 light would be awesome and better then our current Heavies. Can't have awesome, that would be broke.
Plus, can you imagine the forum threads about the Heavy with a Sniper and a HMG or AR and Forge Gun. Or a Forge Gun and a Mass Driver.
It would be the Forumpocolypse! |

Is it really that different from a sniper and a duvolle?

It actually is, I find a HMG is much better then an AR at closer range, and an SnR is better then an AR at mid-long range to long range. There would be a very small section where a AR/SnR would outperform a HMG/SnR, but when I am using my Heavy I find I wish I had a SnR more often then a AR.

It would in no way be rambo for that extra light weapon slot we are still giving up 493 tank (800+ if you compare to tanked out heavy) plus we got minimum slots so you cant stack damage modifiers. If we used damage modifiers it would only affect one gun or the other since damage mods arent universal. Plus it has all the regular disadvantages of a heavy besides the .3 speed increase. which isnt all that much. logis and assaults go 4.7 or faster this thing only gets 3.95 so circles will still be run around it. |

lol.
Plenty of people will be running commando. AR/SCR will be perfect against any type of tanker. Dual swarms will demolish tanks. AR/shotgun will be amazing short-mid range. SCR/MD will wipe out anyone. The damage output potential is huge and the flexibility enormous. You want to give them even more damage potential!? lol.
Why not just make both weapon slots heavy? This thread is ridiculous. |

Did you guys actually read the stats? This thing will not have good dps a it has no slots, it's slow and has low ehp. The amarr basic heavy outperforms it in every stat except one weapon will have slightly more range, 20 dps, and .5 sec reload. Start reading page 3 of the dev blog (if you have attention spans/reading comprehension. ) the math is all there. I'm not laying out the same arguments again. Do some research before posting, rather than this hypothetical garbage. |

To get a light weapon to V = 621840 (12,440+37,300+87,060+174,120+310,920) Then to stay competitive proficiency to at least 3 = 341850 (31,100+93,250+217,650) But wait there are 2 light weapon slots so everything x2. Light weapons x2 = 1243680 (621840+621840) Proficiency x2= 683700 (341850+341850) Total SP for a heavy to get into commando = 1927380So is this a heavy suit for heavies? you tell me Even without proficiencies to 3 its 1243680sp Edit: #s from https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=439809#post439809

It really doesn't matter what number you try to throw at us, you can't change the fact that 2 light weapons is just as good DPS as 1 heavy and a sidearm, if not better. The range that light weapons give over both the HMG and sidearms is what makes the difference for this suit, even if you can get similar or better DPS at close range with HMG/SMG.
No, it's not a heavy suit for people who are already heavies but that doesn't matter either - it's a suit of it's own with its own niche and it fulfills it just fine.
The only weapons that can use a heavy slot are the HMG and forge gun and these would be barely useful on the commando suit anyway. HMG is pretty short range, so you need a lot of tank to be able to use it, especially with such a slow suit; the forge is pretty useless against infantry due to the charge time and slow ROF, so the only use it would possibly get on a commando suit is with a swarm launcher for tank killing. |

Amarr proto basic heavy can beat the commando out of this combo in everything but reload speed (.5 dec) and 27m on the AR because of equipping an SMG. Same range and damage with the SCR. If you use proto sentinel you lose only .5 reload speed and 20dps. Both will have 450+ ehp than commando. Its not worth comparing ADV/STD because commando is even farther behind. Look at my previous posts for long math and stat heavy comparisons. They start on page 3 I think (of dev blog). Edit: SCR. If you use* (my phone wont let me fix for some reason) |

Just hearing the suit stats alone kind of jars the meaning of Commando to me. Commandos are the elite specialists, not some slow bumbling incapable infantry. I may be mistaken, so correct me if I am wrong, but aren't almost all commandos trained in some kind of heavy ordinance such as explosives while not exactly being dressed like they are from the EoD team?
Commando should be a heavy frame with a mediums armor, maybe SLIGHTLY slower than a medium, options for a heavy and a light, just restrict the fitting requirements so if they want to do some pretty insane weapons arrangement, its the PG and CPU that dictate the fits, not restricting modules.
Commandos are billed a small squads or even loners when the time requires it. The specs as described by OP are of someone who is incapable of doing anything when compared to the viability of every other class. The whole class setup just seems counter-intuitive. |

I think the same will be said here and when I first heard commando I was thinking of a slightly slower than normal dual-wielding assault that sacrifices aiming (so blindfire only) for holding two weapons at once. |

Edit: I also believe commando would make a better medium frame than heavy as it is now (obviously ehp would need to take a hit but i would say faster than normal Mediums rather than slower). |
