The obvious solution is to give us ADV and PRO HAVs, but with the maps we're using right now, they would be unstoppable in pubs- but that is the problem: balancing is done for pubs. Even with proto AV on the field (no more than one), i can still tear up a good 13 kills, and thats without rail sniping. Then you have a situation of ONLY TANKS CAN KILL TANKS. So what counters tanks that isn't tanks or infantry- gunships, maybe? But how are you gonna make something that can kill a 14k HP death machine that wont wreck infantry 100% of the time. So now we need to come up with a whole new kind of weapon that ONLY kills gunships, and very efficiently- but then it instakills dropships and makes them useless, again- unless dropships can outrun them in which case not even a tank can kill them. So now we need tanks with special SUPER swarm missiles that do really low damage but hit 98% of the time. Then the problem is that there is only 1 viable AV fitting and that's the anti-gunship weapon and he is weak against tanks, lavs, dropships, and infantry so it's not profitable at all, unless you have every vehicle kill being worth 100k ISK, each- but then only tankers can bank big, which means tank cost will shoot up again, unless only PROTO havs are viable, in which case, the only reason to be infantry is to cap objectives- which brings me to the ultimate conclusion that ends this vicious circle ----> we need new maps with enourmous indoor complexes where only infantry can fight and enourmous open fields where only tanks and vehicles can survive. so this completely segregates the player base into outdoor and indoor fighters, which is not necessarily a bad thing, as now infantry dont kill tanks and tanks rarely kill infantry. this will hide the problem more than solve it, but that's the catch -> vehicles and av will NEVER BE BALANCED and the only thing that can come close to fixing the problem (new maps) is going to take years to make because this game has been around a year and we have how many maps!? (rhetorical) then by comparison, CoD churns out like 4 a quarter, at least. But those maps are tiny, so dust needs to have 3 giant maps like ps2 or mag? Now Dust is trying to be Mag 2.0 or PS2-2.0 and it won't win that battle in its current state.
That's probably as close to the truth as it gets- infantry aren't happy. tanks aren't happy. av isn't happy. The end.
