I have been trying to find a way to record a "new" player on dust, and my friend said that she did not mind. I do apologize if it did in fact sound akward. I am a nerd and record by myself on all my videos, and this was the first time anyone besides my son has shared a video moment with me in the same room. I did though in fact title the video in a appropriate manner where it is in fact a new player.
Being how I am a lower species on the Youtube totem pole and pecking order, I have been waiting for my superior youtube Dust community allies to try and package this type of video, but got tired of waiting and this is the result. I will keep making them as she progresses and she will have unlimited access to my PS3 to " get better" if that is what she chooses.
I must say though.....this is "The New Player Experience" and no matter what anyone says.....it only goes one of two ways...keep playing/get better......or go play pokemon.

We need footage of her playing that first for a proper judgement.
I can easily record her playing cod........but than all that will be said is that dust is harder.
not trying to credit or discredit anyone....just sharing a "new" player to the game.
of course some people will pick up faster than others, as we have seen the countless bad reviews 1 time youtube players put up. |

Couldn't ruin the results of the new player experience that much. Make another video in a few days once she's familiar if she keeps playing. I'm curious to see the results. I think you've got a good thing going here.
I am going tp record some more....I have to break her away from the final fantasy "A Realm Reborn" beta.... and thanks Dub :) |

Was she frustrated the 2 bullets didn't kill everyone and keeping her aim on people was important? lol If you watch the video her biggest problems were adjusting to the PS3 controller and a sort of general lack of intuition like red = bad and blue = good lol? Pretty sure CoD had a radar with red and blue dots... Twitch shooter players will always struggle at first adapting to a tracker shooter. Sort of but not really, CoDs radar shows sound sources but team skin designs are fairly distinct unlike here where any drop suit can be on either side And I definitely wouldnt say twitch shooters have trouble adapting, for instance I myself played twitch shooters for a good 6 or 7 years before jumping into Dust which lets be honest is a bit of a throwback with the huge health bars and all and all that other experience does is train you to snap onto a target faster, most guys I know wont stop shooting until they see the point bonus for a kill come up on screen no matter what game they are playing I watched 10 minutes before I stopped... She has several problems that have NOTHING to do with this game - but FPS playing in general. She stands still when shooting - enters gun fights without knowing her controls - can't see red names apperently - wouldn't of reloaded her gun if you didn't remind her - and has just plain terrible aim. I doubt she even looked at her suit and possibilities. And she actually said getting sniped at 20-30m was unfair. Next time record her after a week of playing after she gets over her xbox experiences and CoD - it would be a much truer experience for new players. I doubt she even knows what an AV nade is - which would be due to her rushing into game rather then exploring where dust shines - the suit costumization. Sorry but -1. This was more of a propaganda video - unless I missed something not watching the last 9 minutes of her just being a terrible player in general.
it is no propaganda video....I NEVER ASK FOR ANYONE TO EVER SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL....or offer silly give aways as door prizes.
I do think you are correct on all levels except the last one, which i just got out of the way. I HAD to put this video up, so that progression can be seen. If there never was this video, than there is no way to tell if she got better. |

She really is just a terrible player, though. o.0 I doubt she does well in CoD lol - unless she's the camp a corner type. :3
its all good sota! you did give me a very good idea for a new video that will get me lots of dislikes...... Youtube and the propaganda used to get you to subscribe....and all the dirty tricks i have seen over the years.
For my 100th video....I gave a ESCORT girl away, a damn beautiful expensive one at that.
just for prople hanging around putting up with my videos, and the requirement for winning was not subscribing...just leave a comment and be of legal age.......
My friend will get better at dust, there is a role for even horrible players..... I just cant give her any advice, it will ruin the series.

O////O No..I have not talked to her in months, she tried dust one time and quit instantly Yeah, I don't blame her. All my friends that tried Dust barely made it out of the academy and all rage quit once they started playing with the big boys. I think this game has a steeper learning curve cliff than EVE online. Hell, EVE actually has a ton of tutorials, instructors, training missions, and an in-game manual.
This is just a unique game that requires alot out of new players.. self control...dedication...and patience. Those are the 3 things that are required to succede in real life, and people tend to play games to escape real life. It takes a rare breed to stick with a game that requires as much. |

Dust 514 : The New Player Experience http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv8sxTadDC4 You gained points in my book, simply by not telling them things. NPE in DUST is lacking. Most academy matches I have been in have lots more murder taxis running around. Which leads me to believe it is vets with a new PSN account. Granted I was as well but.. yeah. Another thing I noticed from the vid is they were an xbox player. When they throw grenades, yeah they were trying to ADS but since PS put it all on the bumpers instead of the triggers..... I did that so much when I first started playing FPS on PS3. Xbox controller is such a better FPS controller. I like your vids LRH. Keep making them. Here is my YT channel. I'm going to subscribe to yours but you don't need to do the same. I play too many console games nowadays and have no capture tool for them. I should get one but... Maybe when PS4 come out I will. Anyway keep up the good work. I like it.
Thanks alot, I subbed... I like leauge of legends... I cant wait until i can post some "A realm Reborn" gameplay. |

Actual tutorials would actually help with this and prepare newberries expecting this to be a free CoD to realize that this is a much different, deeper game. Look at how many new players try to camp corners or try to quickscope.
you are correct, but that is all part of ones mentality... camping in a corner...mcc sniping... death taxi....it all stems from fear of death and social rejection.
Of course there may be some joy at first doing these things, but day in and day out proves it to be more of the mentality
so that is where in my previous comment, it takes a rare breed of person to stick with the game, cause the types i just mentioned....do not stay with the game. |

Take a look at this.....
Play Nice: the Science and Behavior of Online Games
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbYQ0AVVBGU
As part of a team at Riot Games that includes statisticians, scientists, psychologists and developers, Jeffrey "Lyte" Lin and Carl "Status Kwoh" Kwoh are responsible for understanding and solving toxic player behavior. The Player Behavior & Justice team at Riot use the latest research in behavioral, social and cognitive psychology to make major changes and minor tweaks to the League of Legends environment. From the player-driven Tribunal to the Honor Initiative, League of Legends' behavior-focused features reduce harassment and reinforce positive actions. Toxic player behavior is one of the biggest problems in online gaming today. In this interactive discussion, Lin and Kwoh, along with Justin Reich of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society, discuss how psychological insights can create greater civility in a networked world
^^^^^^ it is stuff such as this that takes games to that next level. |

I truly think that a good majority of new players turn into "toxic" players due to the way the game being so non new player friendly. Some people will quit, but a good majority will keep playing due to being toxic "pissed off" and want revenge and get on other players levels......I have seen this, and it can be seen on the forums. |
