I also nova knife, this build its fantastic, CCP did a great job at making them usable. I use a minmitar scout with Proto knives. With my skills each uncharged hit does about 265 dam, and they swing twice with each attack. Last week I achieved a 99 kill streak with knives (across about 10 pub games, not counting when I died in av fits chasing tanks). Anyway, from my experience knives do 148% to the head and when fully charged, do slightly more than double damage, about 1150.
That means double headshot does about 1570 damage! Now, I personally think knives do more damage to armour than shields, because heavies tend to die to 1 double hit. I think it's 100% to shields, and 120% to armour. From my research, a Calogi and heavy with similar amounts of hp - the logi (with most shields) loses less hp than the heavy, armour based.
I will do more research, but before people look at the numbers I'm throwing out and scream OP, I'm sat on the perfect build for knives, which takes about 9m of my 15.5m SP and has a range of 1 meter. Nearly 3am - bedtime. |

The damage bonus only comes into play when you upgrade proficiency or use minmitar suit, aur knives should have no effect on this, because that skill only decreases charge time. And maybe you should test these in corp battles, who knows, an errant sniper could have interfered with your experiment. |

Actually the damage bonus I'm talking about is not related to the proficiency or suit. It's a bonus of its own. The tests were conducted in isolated areas of the matches in three different matches to ensure consistency. PC battles would be inefficient for testing due to the resources required to start a PC battle just for a simple test. It was better to do it in the mercenary battles where we can choose separate sides. We did encounter one arrant merc messing with us, but thankfully he didn't skew the results.
Alright, I set up a corp battle to try this today, with a team of SI on the other side, as test subjects. The testing was extensive and I was using Proto Minnie scout and Proto knives.
Knives do 100% to shields and 100% to armour. Knives do 150% to the head A fully charged Proto knife does 600 damage per hit (+ your proficiency)
I also investigated the effectiveness of damping and passive scanning - WHICH DO NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT WHATSOEVER. I'll be submitting a bug report including details of my tests later this week, maybe even tomorrow. I've wasted 2mil sp on these skills at the minute.
We then played hide and seek, 'twas fun. |
