And even the users reviews are low, and that is unusual considering that is a Kevin VanOrd review, most people in GameSpot hates that guy. |

I don't know why people are afraid of the grind. I see it all the time in other FPS games. CoD, Halo, etc. I see it all the time. Dust has the same grind anyways. |

You can reach max level MUCH FASTER in those games, compared to this one.

Very fair review. What most of the reviews don't notice (because the game fails to explain) is that planetary conquest is not the promised feature where Dust mercs are hired by EVE players to attack/defend their stuff, and currently there is no real meaningful connection to EVE and Dust. |

The problem, in my opinion, is the lack of purpose...its pointless...at least in BF 3 its cool to unlock some cool weapon mods...But in Dust its not cool to play a month straight to unlock some bs equipment that doen't really impact nothing at all... |

Sooooo, it's pointless for non-EvE player to invest time in Dust |

No. Not in the games you mentioned.

While Dust may have it's flaws, I stopped listening to reviews long ago. Presonally I'd rather CCP spend money on the game rather then buying off reviewers.

Dust's progression grind is much greater and the gap from militia/standard vs advance/proto is a much wider.
There's also a notable lack of a "noob-tube" weapon to weather the grind with. Typically shooters have a low skill, quickly unlocked weapon which assists players with a competitive edge while they're leveling up. Often this role is filled by shotguns or other CQC weapons that are often able to 1 or 2 hit kill player at extremely close range, which lessens the need for accurate aiming. They're normally easy to counter to avoid being overpowered, but they nevertheless fit the bill of letting new and/or less skilled players feel as if they're able to kill something until they become better at the game and/or unlock better, more versatile weapons.

Dust currently takes 8500 hours of active playing to cap out. And you can only grind so many of those hours per week. |

This game is only a grind if you make it a grind.
I mean, do you guys consider Christmas a grind because it is so far away? OMG, it will 365 days for it to get here... we need that to be sooner.
If you don't play for the SP, but use it when it accumulates, the grind nature of the game goes away. It's just a mindset... but I think if you treat it like a job it won't be fun. |

I wish it could be Christmas everyday, longest day of the year was Friday...halfway to Turkey-time.
Your other point; the players don't treat it as a job, the game treats the players like workers that need to submit to the dictatorship of the game design in order to have fun.
Remember games? Yeah, those things we do for fun. Not anymore apparently, because to have fun you have to grind. EVE is different, because we're talking about spaceships and interstellar travel, with the mechanics of specialising in exploration, combat, industrial pursuits etc. Most pilot then join up and create a corp with members that have different skills or traits suitable to meeting the goals of the corporation.
With FPS, people just wanna shoot people for a few minutes after a long day sat on the couch - not sat at a desk ploughing through Excel spreadsheets, which is typically the requirements of EVE. |

My guess, and it's only really a guess, is that CCP is trying to make something new, something different. This game seems unlikely to be only an FPS and maybe it takes a slightly different mindset to enjoy it? |

It won't be receiving any serious reviews in a year. Not from anywhere that matters.
Oh, CCP will certainly "try" to relaunch the title and get it some fresh reviews (Dust 2.0, Dust 3.0, etc.. etc..), but it will be an excercise in futility.
Even now, the types of reviewers who are typically interested in coveringe "soft" relaunches of so-called MMO games, are becoming less and less kind about the whole paid beta access - launchday DLC - softlaunch scam that is trending more and more in today's gaming industry. So, the coverage that CCP gets will likely be exactly the type that they do NOT want..... the "final nail in the coffin" type of coverage.

Then kindly define the target audience, or, 'mindset' required to qualify one for an enjoyable session of playing DUST 514.
If you don't want the mass-market appeal, don't market to it by having a game where 99% of the time is spent finding targets to put in your crosshairs.
The more you try an alleviate something, the less people are prepared to crank their heads.
This is what is known as alienating your target audience, and it's analogous to forgetting your wife's name, let alone your anniversary, or her birthday. Just put the shotgun to your own head, the pain will be quick, but it'll be over a lot faster.
Gamers forgive, but they never forget, especially those who got tattoos, or named their first born Eve, or got permission to have spaceship on their wedding cake....oh the list goes on... |
