In one of the matches, I was using an Adv. Scout with a Complex Light Damage Modifier, x3 Profile Dampeners, and an Ishukone Sniper Rifle. I was on the ground near a NULL Cannon and there was a group of snipers on a rooftop hundreds of miles high. Easy targets. I began to take them down one by one. They popped up again with a drop uplink on the rooftop and I took them out quickly. They refused to relocate and attempted to search for me. I sent bullets flying to them. They respawned again, cursing and yelling. Again, they refused to move and still tried to search for me in the same direction I was at. They couldn't see me. They tried to devise a new strategy by bunnyhopping and strafing left and right. Big mistake. This made them even more easy targets. I stilled my scope in only one direction and waited for them to get in my line of sight without moving the crosshair. Bang! They still couldn't see me. I felt invisible and invincible. It was power to me.
In another match, I was up against another sniper prophet. We were at polarized sides of the end of the map in the mountains. It was one of the most difficult, but most rewarding battle I have ever had. It was quite a challenge since we had to search for each other. Normally, you would point the scope and a person's name with the red arrow would immediately pop up. But pointing the scope while he has the dampeners is like trying to pinpoint a crosshair on a fly before its name comes up. For the length of the match, we took down targets in the center of the map while trying to keep tabs on each other. Watching a helpless opponent being sniped to death will enable me to find him just a little easier. Some of the ground troops even tried to switch to being snipers and were searching for us. They were taken out quickly. It was an adrenaline rush. Since we were able to mow down enemies in the center of the map without them coming after us proved that scouts are just as powerful as the other specialized roles.

Beware thinking you are invisible.
A good sniper will be able to spot you most of the time whether or not you have a chevron over your head.
Other than that, nice post. I particularly enjoy sniping people off the taller buildings and watching them ragdoll all the way to the ground below. Even better when it messes up an expensive fit.
Just a hint to snipers -- you are a lot harder to spot if you aren't in one of the "usual" hiding places. Everyone knows where simple optimal placement is. |

I use an active scanner on my dropship. I need it because I can't see through my dropship at what I'm shooting at unless the chevron is there.

I think your invisibility was more a result of the sniper rifle rather than the scout suit. You do not render at a distance. Even for an another sniper they need to bring you up on the scope for you to render.
Of course the dampeners probably did help with the whole name tag floating above your head thing.
However if you could try the same (module set up) with the other suits it would help in determining what impact the scout suit had on the results you have obtained. |

Scoutly Brother!
Kudos on your bravery in sniping at ~250 HP. Your observations are certainly interesting, but I must object to your claims on the grounds of Man Math.
Not-Man Math: Your claim meets the standards of Not-Man Math ["Woman Math" has been deprecated due to complaints of sexism]: "It really feels like I'm doing good right now, therefore it must always be good."
Man Math: Your claim fails to meet the statistical standards of Man Math, as observations made over handful of matches constitute too small a sample to support claims of Invincibility and/or Invisibility. Should you find the pattern to hold after 100+ matches, then further analysis is warranted.
Addendum: I suspect you will find the described successes difficult to replicate, as the majority of Dust's snipers avoid the scout suit altogether. Being OHK'd by a militia-grade countersniper is likely too disheartening an experience.
Additional Consideration: Words like "Invincible" and "Invisible" 1) offer false confidence to newcomers and 2) draw the eyes and lobbying power of the AR-514 majority. Kindly consider using these words sparingly when describing the brutally handicapped Uprising scout suit.

Take note, Newcomers. The scout community loses yet another veteran. His sentiment resonates with those who remain.
CCP peddles false promise to the prospective scout with an enticing class description of "Stealth, Speed, Assassination." An honest description would read, "Handicap Mode - A substantially weaker and slightly faster version of the assault suit, intended for those seeking occasional thrill at the cost of constant frustration."

3 profile dampeners? You wasted those slots to go from completely invisible to completely absolutely ******* invisible!
take those goddamned things off, people's radars are blind as bats beyond 10m and your shotgun works at 8m (plus everything is getting a range boost in 1.2). Then do something useful with those lows: kinetic catalyzers.

Good job for some good games and enjoying the sniper hunt... which, often times just like the CQC hunt, takes place completely away from, and unknown to, the majority of the Logi/Assault (LogiAss?) combatants.
However, yes, I have to agree with folks saying scouts are far from unseen and invincible. Those good games shine, but my experience is that they are the brief rewards in a life of pain, clone replication, and frustration....
The adrenaline is high when playing a scout, and the ISK flows through my hands like water.... but oh, the challenge!

Note the subject line with the word practically in it, which defines almost and nearly. Also, notice I said I felt invisible and invincible. It is not definitive nor is it constant and does not make me a god. I don't know, but the way you wrote just cracked me up hard. I meant it in a good way. It was very funny! |

It is fun being a ghost and yes, snipers are bound to be found when caught. But I believe that it is a fair balance because if snipers or scouts became literally impossible to find, then there is no point for anyone to continue playing. It would almost feel like being targeted by aimbots and I would understand that. I am not sure how cloaking would affect this in the future, but I imagine cloaking would make snipers much harder to find. I may be wrong.
But anyway, you shouldn't have respecced out of "ghosting," though. It takes practice and it's still fun. For me personally, when I'm caught by another sniper, it becomes an adrenaline rush to have a "sniper war" in searching and destroying each other from far away.
Perhaps the appropriate saying should be, "Invisible and invincible until caught." ;) |
