I'm a sniper. Lots of people hate me, but I don't care. My squad mates know that I'm super useful, NOT selfish at all and do what I do for the betterment of my team.
SO, lets give the snipers who DESERVE it some love, yeah?
Everyone tell a story of either you as a sniper or a sniper you know that is either funny, amazing, or just bad ass. I'll begin with funny.
I was lining up my headshot on a sniper yesterday, and when I pulled the trigger... BOOM. Only one quarter of his health is cleared. Now as any sniper knows, that means only one thing- I've hit a heavy. I put two more shots into him and he's down by three quarters of his EHP, when he ducks behind a pillar. I think, "Oh noes! Hees hidden and beeyond mai reech!" But what does Mr. Heavy McSniperpants do?
He jumps from his perch, landing some 100 meters below, killing himself and giving me a kill assist. LOL Dummy.
I hunt enemy snipers to make sure my assault team can handle their assault unimpeded, and I use a fit with a low scan profile so I'm hard to find. Sniping with a heavy suit is like standing in a nanohive bubble, jumping up and down with a bright flashy "HERE I AM!" sign, whilst firing off flares to mark your position. Fail. HUGE scan profile. But... jumping from your high haven of relative safety having no health with which to cushion your fall? Most unwise.
If you're gonna snipe, do it properly, or be doomed to failure. Lol

ill post dude, 1 irish man to another, but then if there ever was a natural sniper its us, we pretend our hurls are rifles from a young age, and us snipers don't like to talk of our kills as we spend all our time alone anyway |

I only dabble in sniping, but I remember a match I spent the entirety of sniping one guy. And him at me in return. Though I have been sniped several times (kill shots) whilst I've been in mid air. |

I was scouting out good roosts once on...oh, I don't know the names of the maps...the one with 4 points and the tabletop in the middle.
Anyway, I'm running up this hill and BAM!!! Smoked by an outgoing Bolas. |

Ive told this before but il tell it again, I was trying to snip an enemy uplink which was somwhat diifficult because of its angle and at a distance it dosn't render, I missed 3 shots, my fourth shot I charged my sniper and took aim and shot, just when I released the trigger someone had spawned there and I got a +50, not gonna lie I felt a bit dirty, but it was an accident ha, got the uplink in my next shot. |

Protip: Profile dampeners don't affect the chevron displaying when people have you targetted. It is only useful in CQC for staying hidden on the TACNET minimap.
Tested extensively through chromosome and confirmed by Wolfman.
On topic though, I quite enjoy sniping people out of dropships and LAVs |

I don't see the point of the sniper class, honestly. I mean, well done for being honest about being a dedicated sniper, that's a point of derision these days it seems. But I come from a much more tactical shooter background. I usually play stuff like ArmA2\3 in squads with MilSim rules and I consider it intense fun...
But one thing it taught me is that snipers are good for one thing. Intel. The moment they fire their gun, they're not doing their job and therefore i'd rather have another gun in my squad. In Dust I admit it's perhaps not so clear cut due to the natures of the games, but when I'm rolling with my own friends and squads I just can't think of a reason i'd want a sniper over a heavy, or a logi, or hell another guy with a tac AC.
Snipers who do their job (That is, provide intel and spend more time talking than shooting) are a decent asset. But the moment they sit out on the redline in the mountains they're now a useless piece of meat dragging the whole team's efficacy down. I genuinely cant think of a job a sniper does better than anyone else. Not one. They very occasionally annoy one and only one person on the other time. The size of health bars and the fact we're immortal and resawn (Unlike in ArmA) Means no one protects their vrtual lives and will just bumrush any sniper too lazy to relocate.
I've been saying this since MPT days, but I just don't see how a class so focused around solo play and K\D padding fits into a team based FPS. |

Love is opening the skull of a LAV driver with a single shot at 250m.
Snipers can be very useful on the more open maps, highlighting and tracking enemy movements between bases. Granted, you only need 1-2 for this, not the 4+ you sometimes get, plus the MCC huggers.
Also, don't underestimage how powerful that sniper rifle is at shorter ranges. People have underestimated the fact that gun packs a severe whollop if I can get that wavy reticle over them. |

My team mates where sniping ontop of the buildings right next to a point that belonged to the enemy
when the enemy push our team out of the building complex they just sat there did nothing kept sniping
they where right next to the point the entire enemy team had us redlined and they just sat there we could have had a change if they just jumped off and capped the point
one of them even said they had a good visual of the points hack console so if any one hacked it he could keep it safe.... |

Perhaps this has changed in Uprising?
As a sniper looking for other snipers, scanning the horizon while not zoomed in usually reveals my targets, as long as I have a clear line of sight on them. The distance between where my rifle is pointing and where the target actually is seems a lot larger for HAV's, heavies and medium suits than scouts with their smaller profiles. I know a few other dedicated snipers that use profile dampeners, and I literally have to be zoomed in with my reticle on their Dropsuit to see their chevron.

I think I can agree with this. It does seem to me that the big stuff is a bit more obvious. Or at least the chevron seems to flash earlier as I pan toward it.
The only time I didn't ever see a chevron (that I can verify) was in the last build when I had my reticle right on a scout's head. There was no chevron or bars and he was only about 130 meters from me.
I sniped him for his insolence.
