The title explains, it would be great for recon. Uses 1 equipment slot.
EDIT: For a higher tier versions it could have the ability to laze targets for squad members. |

A very high zoom fidelity with of course some other features, snipers take weapon slots, so please if you are going to ****-post don't turn here at all. |

If you need to see off into the distance, you should be asking for a sniper to give u recon. that is what a sniper is for. adding binoculars only removes the sniper's role and contribution to the team. Sniper + mic = binoculars. I thought well and through. please don't act like a child. |

It would allow you to do some reconnaissance while retaining the ability to defend yourself at short to medium ranges, depending on the weapon you choose. |

Notice in your reply you stated "you" often as if "you" are the only one on the team. Binoculars => dont need snipers => lone wolfing => against what this game is about. The purpose of the roles in the game are for you to rely on your teammates to help you in capturing/defending objectives.
Logis are for support/heal heavies are for defend assaults are for capture scouts are for recon (though not anymore, its snipers role now)
binoculars would only create more redline snipers that dont contribute to the team because "you" dont need "them" for recon. |

I say this can be a useful tool as if it counts as an equipment slot and you can change zoom in fidelity but not only that your squad mates and only your squadmates can be able to see those reds on map(though I dont care for it) but also this tool can tell what theyre equipped with as weapon and equipment now that would be a tool and would make since. Like STD-Tells you like what guns a Tank has and how much HP then ADV- Tells you what passive modules they have and Pro- Tells you what Active Modules they have |

Do targets that snipers can see show up as red chevrons for the rest of the team? if it doesnt, it should. |

This game is also about customization, AND you would have to sacrifice an equipment slot to use the binoculars. Also, see my edited post above.

binoculars would only create more redline snipers that dont contribute to the team because "you" dont need "them" for recon. Like I said, this game is about customization, so even though CCP says the heavy suit is meant for point defense, you can fit any weapon on it, thus allowing you to create your own roles. Why should snipers be the only ones able to do long range reconnaissance? |

that is like asking why HMG users should be the only ones able to provide continuous suppressing fire on an area for defensive or offensive purposes; it is their role. It just so happens that only the heavy can use the hmg |

The fact that you only addressed this part of my post tells me that you don't really understand what I'm trying to get at. Also, I would argue that HMGs are worse at providing suppressing fire than other weapons, due to their lack of range. |

I agree that binoculars would be a great piece of equipment to train. Lazing a tank (target painting for missile users or orbital bombardments) would be a great feature and something I would consider skilling into. These would be more worthwhile than an active scanner. Currently I like to resort to a Tactical AR when I want to see long distance, not exactly ideal given that sometimes ROF is an advantage and it would be better to pick out enemy positions for the squad to move in on or skirt in an attempt to gain a strategic advantage.
I like this idea a lot more than jet packs |

Honestly, I'd like to see a Binocular/Active Scanner hybrid piece of equipment. The active scanners need a re-work IMO. Adjusting the zoom adjusts the range and scan angle. Variations dictate the length of scan, MAX/MIN zoom, Scan precision, etc...
If targets are in the scan range, then they will be lit red when looking through the lenses. Then you can scan an area and relay the information to friendlies.
If they are out of the scan range then, they won't be lit red, but you can still monitor their movements from the increased zoom. |
