I actually have great fun when I use my militia heavy fit with a forge gun.
Being chased by a LAV as a scout i ran to a supply depot, quick change, bye bye LAV. |

Yes, because hoarding loads of ISK and not using it to buy gear is a good idea.

Militia gear serves it's purpose but unless you have buff modules and core skills it's not that great. Even if you have good modules, the CPU/PG for militia gear isn't very high so you probably can't fit very many of them.
Standard is a noticeable step up from my perspective..... I'm not sure why anyone would want to run militia long-term..... but hey, to each their own.
I'll stick with STD/ADV for the most part.
