This is another part of my quest to revive the Light and Heavy Frame Dropsuits. Here is a link to the Wingman Light Frame (psuedo-Logi) I designed. This Dropsuit was inspired by my obssession with Turrets. It's good to get my creative juices flowing again.
Gunner Heavy Dropsuit Gunner Suit Bonus: +5% Damage for Small Turrets per level Gunner Suit Effect: -30% to 50% to damage output for Handheld Weapons
Amarr: Gunner ak.0 Racial Bonus: -10% Heat Build up rate for Small Laser Turrets per level (No Laser Turrets) -10% Heat Cost per shot for Small Railgun Turrets per level Base Price: 85160 Max CPU: 200 Max PG: 40 Shield: 560 Armor: 560 H Slots: 2 L Slots: 2 E Slots: 0 Weapon(s): Sidearm Shield Recharge Delay: 5.0 s Shield Recharge Rate: 30 /s Shield Recharge Depleted Delay: 9.0 s Armor Repair Rate: 5 /s Scan Profile: 80 Scan Precision: 75 Scan Radius: 1.5 m Stamina: 75 Stamina Recovery Rate: 10.0 /s Movement Speed: 1.9 m/s Sprint Duration: 5.0 s Sprint Speed: 3.3 m/s Melee Damage: 175
Caldari: Gunner ck.0 Racial Bonus: +10% to Small Missile Turret Missile Speed per level Base Price: 85160 Max CPU: 180 Max PG: 35 Shield: 600 Armor: 400 H Slots: 3 L Slots: 2 E Slots: 0 Weapon(s): Sidearm Shield Recharge Delay: 5.0 s Shield Recharge Rate: 30 /s Shield Recharge Depleted Delay: 8.0 s Armor Repair Rate: 5 /s Scan Profile: 80 Scan Precision: 75 Scan Radius: 1.5 m Stamina: 65 Stamina Recovery Rate: 8.0 /s Movement Speed: 2.1 m/s Sprint Duration: 7.0 s Sprint Speed: 3.5 m/s Melee Damage: 175
Gallente: Gunner gk.0 Racial Bonus: -10% to Heat build up per shot for Small Blaster Turrets Base Price: 85160 Max CPU: 170 Max PG: 40 Shield: 400 Armor: 600 H Slots: 2 L Slots: 3 E Slots: 0 Weapon(s): Sidearm Shield Recharge Delay: 5.0 s Shield Recharge Rate: 30 /s Shield Recharge Depleted Delay: 10.0 s Armor Repair Rate: 5 /s Scan Profile: 80 Scan Precision: 75 Scan Radius: 1.5 m Stamina: 60 Stamina Recovery Rate: 8.0 /s Movement Speed: 2.0 m/s Sprint Duration: 7.0 s Sprint Speed: 3.4 m/s Melee Damage: 175
Minmatar: Gunner mk.0 Racial Bonus: +10% to RoF for Small Projectile Turrets (No Projectile Turrets) +10% to RoF for Small Blaster Turrets per level Base Price: 85160 Max CPU: 160 Max PG: 35 Shield: 380 Armor: 580 H Slots: 1 L Slots: 4 E Slots: 0 Weapon(s): Sidearm Shield Recharge Delay: 5.0 s Shield Recharge Rate: 30 /s Shield Recharge Depleted Delay: 9.0 s Armor Repair Rate: 7 /s Scan Profile: 80 Scan Precision: 75 Scan Radius: 1.5 m Stamina: 60 Stamina Recovery Rate: 8.0 /s Movement Speed: 2.2 m/s Sprint Duration: 7.0 s Sprint Speed: 3.6 m/s Melee Damage: 175
I designed this suit because it's too easy to get shot out of Small Turrets, especially on LAVs. I felt like Heavy Frames needed some love too, so it's a perfect combination. The Gunner suit, similar to the Pilot suit, will benefit Turret Components or Vehicle Components instead of Dropsuit and Weaponry aspects.
Like the Sentinel, it will have no Equipment slots. The Gunner gets additional Shielding and Armor, shorter Shield Recharge Delay, and faster Shield and Armor recovery. In exchange for those Dropsuit bonuses and Turret Bonuses, the Gunner suits only receives a Sidearm and sacrifices basically everything else; its CPU/PG, damage output, and movement aspects are all reduced, effectively removing it as a viable combat suit.
When I designed this, I purely has its role as a Gunner in mind, like how I don't think the Pilot suit should have combat capabilities; both should be outclasses by combat dropsuits in Dropsuit combat.
These Dropsuit Stats are what I based this suit off; I eagerly await feedback and responses!
Note: If something should be modified, I will be making edits based on feedback as the discussion progresses. |

Django Quik wrote:I have actually been thinking of something similar lately because I initially was looking to run as a vehicle gunner this build but it's not really a viable role yet. I hadn't thought of making it a heavy suit but that's actually a good idea. I like the suits you've come out with and the racial bonuses aren't bad but disagree with two things:
1) I don't think there should be damage buffs for anything from any suit (apart from the minmatar assassin scout). Instead the general bonus could be to ROF of all turrets. The racial bonuses could be similar to your suggestions on heat build up but the Caldari bonus could increase splash radius and the Minmatar bonus could be something like reducing dispersion or something. 2) Give them a light weapon slot; I think a sidearm only is too limiting if the vehicle gets destroyed and the gunner needs to bail. I was also considering being a vehicle gunner this build, but like you said, there is nothing to support the role. Normally I'd want my Gunner to be a Medium Frame, but the other Frames are lacking, so I designed a Heavy Frame.
Responding to your points: 1) I think I can agree with the no damage buff policy; I will try to work this into the edit, depending on others' responses, too. I will also be taking your recommendation regarding the Caldari and Minmatar racial bonuses, too, because I did not consider those aspects. 2) I am against giving them a Light slot because of the amount of extra Shielding and Armor they receive and their increased recovery rates. Giving them a Light weapon combined with the amount of slots they have could easily make them a point defender and absolute wall, hence potentially better than the current Sentinal and entering a combat role which they are not supposed to be in. |

pegasis prime wrote:I do really like the idea but id swap dammage buffs for passive racial regen I.e. caldari+5% shield regen per levle ammar +10 armour repair rate per levle. Or even throw in some passive resistance I.e. caldari+5% shield resistance perlevle ammar +5% armour resistance , both of these focused on resistance to small arms fire I.e.sniper rifles and assault rifles. I think this would make gunning in an lav more viable. Noted. I think replacing the damage boost with a passive defense would be more beneficial to the suit now that it has been brought to my attention. I will make some of the changes and make the edit shortly; I'll post if otherwise. |

Django Quik wrote:I don't think people would be tempted to use these as point defense if they had a light weapon slot because everything they could do, a logi could do better, faster and carry equipment too. The sentinel has the advantage of being able to carry heavy weapons, so that would retain its niche. I disagree; while the Logi does have superior speed and Equipment, the Gunner would be able to tank more shots than a Sentinal and a Logi, and have an AR to boot. Depending on the modules the Gunner would have, slap a Proto Rep Tool on the thing and I wouldn't even want to approach it with a Shotgun. The Light Weapon would give it just enough options and power to keep most people suppressed while it gets repped and more deadly and bulky than a normal Sentinal suit. Even if the HMG gets fixed, having the Gunner with improved recovery rates could also pose a problem if it were to have a Light Weapon. I won't rule the option out, but I would like to hear more of your side and others input regarding this suit having a Light Weapon, too. |

Terry Webber wrote:While I like the idea, I'm on the fence for making this Gunner dropsuit a heavy frame. Why have the extra armor when you'll be relatively safe inside a turret most of the time? Making it a medium frame may be better. Besides, a heavy frame Commando dropsuit may be coming out someday.. Because you're not relatively safe inside the turret most of the time. No one wants to ride in the turret of an LAV in a normal suit because as soon as the LAV slows done or stops, the turreter is easy pickings. Even in a Dropships, if the thing hangs in the same place for a while as turreters go at it, it's not too hard to pick the guys riding. Also, it is much easier to design Medium Frames because they are the most versatile and generally used as the pivot and vantage point for other suits. It's harder to fit roles into the Light and Heavy Frames, so they need some love. |

Update: Version 1.1 of the Gunner Heavy Frame complete. See changes at the very top.
Notes: I removed the handheld damage output nerf because it was stupid on my part to add it in the first place.
I'm hesitant to give this suit a damage resistance general bonus because I really want the suit to focus on Small Turret capabilities instead rather than buffing itself. If the suits needs more resistance, eHP, etc., than can be addressed on the Dropsuit stats instead of as a bonus.
I do need some feedback on the Minmatar bonus without Projectile Turrets.
Any other feedback would also be appreciated; I believe giving this suit a Light Weapon instead of a Sidearm is still up for debate. |

I hadn't thought of having a bonus for just while in a vehicle, and I think it is a very good idea; I have implemented it.
I don't think adding an Equipment slot just to restrict it is a good idea; it defeats the purpose of customize how you want while still preserving roles in this game. If the only thing they should be able to use is one piece of equipment, better to have no equipment at all and not taunt people. The purpose of this role is solely to turret effectively; the Pilot can rep his own vehicle. |

I will be posting more ideas like this, most likely for the Light Frames, though. Have to think about more ways Heavy Frames could be used. |

(Bump) I completely overhauled the Gunner design, so it's in V2 right now; changes are listed in the short version. Back for more feedback; HMU people. Thanks. |

(Bump, again) Not really sure what to do with this one now... I'm also wondering what people think about this having a Heavy slot instead of a Sidearm slot. Is that OP or OK? I'd prefer to have most, if not all, Heavy Frames to have a Heavy slot after hearing the debates a week ago, but I'd like some input. Thanks in advance. |
