Really.
The projectile speed of the plasma launcher coupled with the falloff make it a close to close-medium weapon.
This is exactly where the AV grenade is, only you can spam them, each does more damage, you usually don't know where they're coming from and more.
With other AV weapons you at least have range, or lock on ability, or something, but not with the plasma launcher.
So what is the point of the Plasma launcher? |

Or the mass driver, which is a rapid fire version of the plasma launcher.

To the hands of someone who can knows how to use it,yeah it can be underestimated.
Killed tanks,lavs and even one shot heavy's,and even if it grazes someone,then that's what my SMG is for.
I have made a thread about how to use this weapon.
Trust me, I have tested it again and again, but all other weapons beat it.
Its USEABLE, just USELESS. |

Pair the plasma cannon with a smg and you got a really dangerous combo. Learn to play or gtfo.

All weapons do what it does better, having it in one doesn't do much if its useless in both.
It takes two shoots for a proto plasma launcher + 3x complex damage mods to take down a MLT LAV.
It requires a direct hit from a slow moving projectile with dropoff to actually kill anything.
It has a charge up time for no reason at all.
There is also a weird delay after you fire it, that makes switching to an SMG pointless as by the time it triggers you are already dead. |

I wouldn't say completely useless, it is very effective against heavies and shotty scouts and as spec said it is very effective at dealing with installations (the best infantry AI weapon to do so by far).
Dealing with installations?
Forge guns and swarm launchers do it just fine, I don't see what plasma launchers give you that they don't.
As for shotty scouts, it would be useful if the projectile didn't move like a snail. |
