Just curious how people would vote on this.
Bare in mind that the cons to maintaining a PS3 client involve a drain on developer resources, as well as a bottleneck on the number of features actually available in the game that a PS4 can handle but the PS3 cannot. For example you will never have building and terrain destruction on the PS3, nor high player counts inside of matches. As a result, PS4 players will also not be able to enjoy these benefits, even though their system (and by proxy, the games they are competing with) can.
Personally I vote shut it down and restart. I believe strongly in the vision of Dust, but I also believe we are on the completely wrong path right now and it is digging itself into a hole it may never be able to get out of. |

How entitled do you have to be to ask a company to shut down a profitable game because you think have more pretties later.
I just... You know i'm glad you don't run a company.
CCP has always been run more like a group of artists and dreamers than a company looking to fatten their wallets. I know for a fact there are many within the company itself who feel the same exact way I do. |

I just... You know i'm glad you don't run a company. This. People may not like this game but it is without a doubt, still a capable shooter which is a blast to pay. This thread is terrible and op should feel terrible.
If you think it is a capable shooter, you yourself are pretty damn terrible. |

Wow, Are you actually claiming to have a CCP batphone to back up your point? Need to add some tabsco because thats some weak sauce.
CCP recruits largely from the playerbase. I've been with the eve community for a decade.
So, yes. You can say I have a batphone. |

What an absolute load of crap. You seriously think asking CCP to TURN THE GAME OFF. Is beneficial to ANYONE?
Yes, I do. In the long run they will be able to do more with it and gain more player interest through an actual quality game. On the current path its going down, it will continue to be less than mediocre and turn minimal profit.
Furthermore, the game can survive even if it is turned off. Eve has been funding this project for quite a while now.
My goodness, you sure scream a lot. Is it that time of the month again? Why don't you take a tranquilizer? |

Immediately opening with insults instead of any material to debate with is the sure sign of an idiot. It must be difficult to go through life without a single intelligent thought in your head, Vallud. You have my sympathies. |

Turning this game off will not make it better. All that'll happen is he'll come back when it's re-released and complain about everything ELSE and claim CCP didn't let us provide feedback. And you know that's how this will play out, because it's the only course of action that could possibly happen.
How can the community provide feedback to ongoing development if the only viable and serious suggestion you give the developers is "Turn it off and don't let us be involved anymore while you tinker behind the scenes, even though everything you've done before is something I've been disappointed with and complained about."
Please don't go tarnishing me with this same brush. I love Dust, I love EVE and I enjoy CCP and what they do. I play at least a few games daily and I have made plenty of posts, suggestions and had plenty of neutral discussion (Those likes didn't generate themselves). But when I see something so mind-numbingly shortsighted, so idiotic in it's purpose and a request that serves nothing and no one other than a self gratifying sense of spite, yeah I lose my faith a little and wonder why people like that are still here.
With the above considered, do you seriously think turning the game off is the right thing to do? If you're answer is still yes, I urge you to uninstall, because this game will never be what you want it to be.
If i'm 'awful' for saying turning off the game is a flat out stupid idea (Not just bad, I genuinely mean downright idiotic), what does that make the people who want to turn the game off and cut off development feedback?
They have more than enough feedback. They have acquired a full year of it.
Not to mention they have been lambasted by nearly every neutral reviewer out there who isn't already payed to deliver pro-sony propaganda. Many of these reviewers are familiar with CCP's track record and eve, but still recognize this game is terrible.
You say only a tiny fraction of the community is dissatisfied with it. Metacritic would say otherwise. These forums would say otherwise. Every corporation too lazy to even show up to their PC battles would say otherwise. And I would say you are completely delusional about where you stand in the community. |

You believe the majority of people playing the game are content with it when nearly every sign points to the opposite.
You like the game. Congratulations. Nearly everyone casual disagrees with you, and nearly every good player probably wants to disassociate with you on principle.
Yet you have the audacity to call me stupid.
Alright, I'll bite.
How are you not delusional? |

The problem is that as long as this game is available to the average PS3 user, Dust 514 (and CCP) are hurting their reputation and making it less likely for the game to succeed in the long run. Shutting the game down and retooling would give them a chance to fix the problems without having to worry about how the current state of affairs affects the average player perception. Right now, most players who bother to download the game never come back. They try it out, realize it's an unfinished product, and shut it down... and that's assuming they haven't read the reviews first. If they read the reviews, it's unlikely they will ever bother downloading it in the first place. To the average player who doesn't read the forums, doesn't play Eve, and has no connection to the New Eden universe, there's no reason to consider Dust 514 anything other than a throwaway half-assed shooter. Many of us see the potential, and see how the current game doesn't even come close to that potential. We'd rather there be a great game down the line, than have a terrible game right now. I'm not entirely convinced that shutting the game down for awhile is the best approach, but I certainly wouldn't say the idea is anywhere close to "idiotic".
Thank you for the well thought out post.

Again though, I have to wonder.
If you've watched the BF4 multiplayer trailer, you know the kind of dynamic battlefield stuff that can happen with buildings getting leveled, roads collapsing, etc. That kind of thing just isn't going to be possible on this current client, and because of that it means that it will be limited if it shares the game with the PS4 client.
Is this horrible, barely functional client we are playing on right now really worth severely limiting the future of this game in such a drastic manner? If development continues on it, they will continue to keep it out there as long as possible and it will probably be 5 or 6 years before you even start to see them experimenting with higher player counts and destructible terrain. And that will put them even further behind on optimizations to it.
So why save this abomination of a client? It could greatly advance this game if we just let the client fade away for now. It's not like it's that fun to play anyways. |
