They're easier/harder to use now. Harder because the splash radius was nerfed, but easier because its now harder to blow yourself up.
Overall I felt the change was mostly uneeded, the only one that was questionable was the Freedom Assault simply because that radius rivaled that of a small nuclear weapon. But regardless any "fix" went a bit far in my opinion. |

Like the laser rifle, I have never been killed by one since Uprising. I suppose that's what the whiners wanted. |

Never understood the Laser Rifle crying, it was one of the easiest weapons to deal with due to its tight zone of effective range. |

The story as I understand it was in CCP's internal matches a large portion of their teams were using mass drivers and that lead to their decision to nerf their damage and range. In addition to the nerf there's also bugs relating to the smoke trail and explosion detection.
A small nerf would have been fine with me but all of the above combined made being a masshole a much tougher job than it should be.
If you want to use them now, at least complex damage mod is required. |

All explosion detection in this game is bugged and ccp know it, they have internally fixed the problem (they say) so the mass driver SHOULD become better after they deploy the fix (somewhere in the next 10 years).
Another problem is that in game meters for some reason looks like feets so the good 3m explosion radius of the MD in game becomes 90cm.
The MD would probably be fine if metres were actual meters and explosions worked right. |

Having been on the recieving end, the Mass Driver is a good squad support/suppression weapon. It causes quite a lot of chaos, and can kill injured units that have underestimated the blast radius or reach.
It's maybe not ideal for people who overcompensate for frail egos with high K/D ratios, but as a squad support weapon, it's pretty damn effective. |
