So for a better version of this post, you can view my blog post about it.
I've recently started playing more EVE again and something I've noticed that EVE does really well compared to Dust is scaling modules. In EVE, you'll be paying 2, 5 or even 10 times more to get a 5-20% upgrade over the previous meta level of gear. Where as in Dust, you'll be paying that same difference to get something as high as a 100% upgrade for some mods.
Right now the prototype level damage mods and shield extenders give a huge advantage over the advanced variants. It's actually to the point where the advanced modules aren't worth using and you're better off adding fitting mods in the low slots to get access to complex gear. Standard gear is the same, with no tangible benefit over the militia versions in many cases. Gear progression should be about collecting numerous small advantages at an exponential cost. What we have right now instead is people running around with 2x more health and 2x more damage in full squads, steamrolling anyone who isn't also using complex mods.
What I hope to see is instead of shield extenders giving 22/22/33/66, that they give 22/36/52/66 or 33/44/55/66. Maybe something like 4/6/8/10 for weapon mods or 5/6/7/8. |

The difference between a T1 ship, a (navy) faction ship and a T2 ship is closer to the differences between normal, advanced and proto suits.
What I'm referring to as the biggest issue is the modules that give around 100% bonuses over their lower tier counterparts. This is crazy good and results in a huge gap between levels of gear.

Also I read your blog post, and armor doesn't offer the same scaling as shields, at complex level armor is slightly less than double that of basic. Yeah, the numbers I gave out were just rough examples. Looking at what small shield extenders give in EVE right now.
188/198/206/216/225/263
So taking out say, the second and 4th mods, you're left with 188/206/225/263. I guess that makes something around +20% per upgrade about right. It doesn't need to be exact with each level, but 3/3/5/10 seems out of line with equipment and weapon scaling. |
