Short version for devs: The local chat channel isn't switching systems when we are on the warbarge or on the planet. As far as local chat is concerned, we never leave our quarters. It should accurately reflect what system we are in at all times.
Why this is important (for players) Background: In Eve Online, there is a chat channel that is always available called "Local". It contains all of the logged in pilots and mercs that are in the the same system that you are in. It is a very useful tool for seeing who else is nearby (ie are there enemies/targets here?) for smacktalk between rival fleets, and for scams, insults, and spam.
However, our version of Local, in Dust, is locked on the system that we are born in. While that is acceptable (for the moment) in MQ, when we jump to the warbarge, our location changes, as noted in the top left corner, and the local chat should switch as well.
Why? 1. Smacktalk. Since the opposing team is also in the same system, you can get in some good insults while you wait for the deployment timer to run down 2. On the fly FW support. A quick shout out to any pilots in the system that a FW match is going to start might give you some orbital support. It might give your opponent support as well, but that's a risk. 3. Visibility. Eve players will see and chat with dust players, and vice versa. 4. Intel. Does the enemy have a fleet insystem for the upcoming PC fight? Local chat will allow you to give your friendly 5 man fleet a heads up that there are 75 ships in local, and they are probably not friendly.
This is a simple enhancement. It might be considered a bug, but I don't know what the intended functionality is for this. It should behave a local does in Eve: Switching channels whenever you change systems. |

I wasn't actually aware of this, but I fully agree with the OP. (Just assumed the Local chat WAS the current local system) |

It might be a bug. I posted this in Tech Support, but it was buried under the tide of complaints in minutes. I doubt CCP ever saw it. |

I agree. I've been seeing nothing but local chat from those living in the Jolia system. |

Population interaction will help game integration and open avenues for social connections which could strengthen both games through alliances and rivalries.

Personally, I think PC would feel a lot more real to all the EVE players in Molden Heath if you regularly had masses of Dust players popping up in Local as they fought their PC battles. |

Local chat in Eve does not work consistently with Local Chat in Dust. Given that the local chat channels in Eve were recently upgraded to show Dust mercs, it appears that it is intended to. The only question is, was it supposed to work when we started getting our locations in the top left, or is it not yet implemented? |

Now that the Dev team is back from the "First Dragon Boat Festival in Space" , I thought I'd give this a bump.
Note, I was reading through the Eve devblogs in Planetary Bombardment, and have confirmed that local not switching was by design as of Chromosome. However, I'm still not clear if it was supposed to switch as of Uprising, when your position in New Eden became displayed in the top left in the Warbarge and in MQ.
In any case, I think this should be on the roadmap. |

I think this was the reason they didn't change local for Mercs, as it could be used as a spy tool (or am I confused with people choosing in which system they are?) . I do however agree that the Pro's far outweigh the cons and it would be a massive boost to immersion in FW and PC, seeing local spike with mercs as you have an FW skirmish or fight a PC battle. You can even smacktalk each other if you're in the same local in PC. |
