I first joined the closed beta full of hopes and dreams.
CCP has steadily proven that I was very wrong to put my faith in them.
Even though I have hope that the game will get turned around, I know that that is an irrational train of thought. All the evidence points to this thing being an extremely small niche game, with a playerbase composed of largely fanboys, and neckbeards who can't catch up in Eve but want to be something in New Eden.
Maybe those core fanatics will be willing to give CCP enough cash to keep this thing going, but I am pretty sure it will never reach the heights it could have if the development and release hadn't been mishandled so badly. As it stands the game is at least a couple of years behind the competition, and given the reputation CCP has for being punctual, this does not look likely to change.
Which is a shame, because there are many parts of the game that I enjoy a lot. As well as a large majority of the players who seem like decent, good natured fellows whom I enjoy shooting in the face. But it does not make up for the deficiencies, nor does it excuse the shockingly bad manner in which CCP has handled the last couple of months.

I'm way too synster to see any of that and take what you say at face value - so I'd enjoy your rebutal if you have any to my comments rather then calling me a troll and using snide remarks to back up your claims. And before you call me a doom and gloomer again: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=86739&find=unread
Don't worry about it. I just figured it out.
The reason why QG is willing to put his faith in CCP is because he is by nature a very trusting person. That is why he expects people to take him at his word when he says he will pay you for ringing.
"Hey, everyone here, send me a mail that says We beat the IMPs, and I will make sure you get paid"
is the same as
"We are working on a dev blog, it will be out soon"
And just like people like me stopped showing up for STB fights, so will people stop showing up for Dust releases.
If you make promises and don't keep them, no one gives a flying carp what you say later on.
Nothing against you QG, but the whole struggle to get paid for being a mercenary, in a game about being a mercenary was always ridiculous, and helped drive me out of PC. The fact that the only way I was going to get paid was by being a whiny ***** about it just made me say F it and go back to solo pubbing, where I didn't have to worry about the team going down and me getting nada. |

CCP heard how hard it was to properly pay people for merc contrats. hence with the new release a player isk transfer. It was so compilcatioed to transfer corps dontate an transfer back when there is no character selction screew. I t would take almost a half hour to transfer isk form corp to copr an ther was no real way unless merc was a director to ensure the payment transfer
Which is my point.
How is it that CCP made a game about mercenaries where it was a mammoth task to pay people for being mercs?
How is it that CCP hands out salvage like candy, but you can't trade it?
How is it that CCP makes an FPS with such sloppy hit detection?
How is it that CCP made an FPS where aiming is so darn difficult?
How is it that CCP couldn't get the skill tree descriptions right for release?
How is it that CCP can't program a map that doesn't have sinkholes on the slopes?
How is it.........
I could go on all day. The amount of seemingly obvious problems is far too many to think that this game will reach its stated goals within the next 36 months.
By then, there will be so many other options, that playing this will seem like a fools errand. Except for the people who can't compete in any other game, they will stay, to pretend like they are something other than awful, when anybody with a real competitive streak moves onto games where there is less random chance, and more skill in play.
I used to think that Dust would survive a year on PS3 after the PS4 launched. Then they announced the price of the PS4, and based off of the trickle of info from CCP, it looks like PS4 Dust won't be with us until 2015, if then. Why am I going to keep an antiquated system around to play a game iwth a sub 5000 player count, that is not competitive with even 2010 shooters?
Even more important, do you really think, given the examples of Chomosome and Uprising, that the PS4 release is actually going to be good? If you do, I would say that you are looking through some finely rose-tinted glasses, while drinking the kool-aid.
Finally, your justifications for people not getting paid are the same as CCPs for not getting stuff done. Oh, trading is a big deal, and we don't want the headaches of trying to progress the game, so we will just tell people we are working on it, and produce nothing to make that claim seem reasonable.

Actually, this type of thread is very illuminating to me.
I always wonder what type of trash gets forwarded to CCP as examples of player feedback.
This must be one of them.
They should just make a take a load to the face section for these types of posts. |
