Try DUST University. They can help you figure out what you want to do, and will suggest where you want to put your SP when you find out what you want. :D
As for everything else... It's really just that you came into the game at the wrong time. Recently, they've added the Academy feature, for new players. I don't know if that counts you (Since you joined before Uprising...).
It's really just finding a playstyle that works for you. I prefer to play a defensive/supportive role on the battlefield. I actually dislike using pure offensive weapons, as mindless violence bug me. I know I shouldnt be playing a FPS if I didn't like the violence, but here I can actually play tactically without being murdered.
Anyways, because I like to play a Supportive role the most, I put my SP into Logistics suits and Sniper equipment. It doesn't make me a huge threat (Although my pure skill does that for me...), but it racks in WP and I can keep my squad alive, by supplying ammo and restoring health. I use the Sniper Equipment mostly to scout for my team. Say, my squad is heading over to Alpha. I would take my Sniper Rifle and deplete clones at Alpha to ease up the hurt on my team.
For a Defensive Role... I honestly don't play Heavy as much as I play Logistics, but I still play it often enough to say I'm pro at it. It's basically me trying to run around and fend off clones from a certain point. I'm a master of Focused Aggression with a HMG.
An Offensive Role is not my forte, but I still pull it off while I'm using free suits or just plain Assault-Based suits. I basically run and gun. I die an awful lot (I get ballsy sometimes...), but I rack up kills almost as much as I do as a Heavy, and I can fend off a point long enough (Only a couple seconds) to get my squad to spawn on the point and focus fire on the enemy trying to hack it.
But yea. I have no idea if this is what you were looking for or not, but still It helps, doesn't it?
EDIT: Remember though, it's not so black and white. A Logistics doesn't HAVE to Support. I run Logistics sometimes carrying only Explosives and a Nanohive for myself. Heavies don't have to play an offensive/defensive role either. You can just put a Sniper Rifle on a Heavy suit and enjoy being able to take on Anti-Snipers. An Assault suit can be made into a pure pilot suit, instead of being on the ground. That's why I like DUST 514. Customization in this game outranks everything else. EVER. |
