So I thought that I would start a thread here to start some discussion about Dust 514, EVE, and New Eden. I have played EVE now for over 6 years and have been involved with Dust for almost 2. There are several things that I believe CCP will keep pretty close to the collar until they are ready to release, but I thought that here we could spread wild rumors about things that we have heard, or would like to see developed. Things that I have heard that warrant discussion:
- Vehicles in general, but specifically, MTAC's, Speederbikes, more aircraft (interceptors, fighters, bombers),
- Drones, both rogue drones as NPC PVE bots, but also as on field deployable assets,
- Civilian NPC's populating facilities to be killed, captured, protected, defended...etc
- Integration of markets, and how that will affect the New Eden economy,
- How planetary conquest and planetary interaction should be interrelated,
- The ability to orbitally deploy things like supply depots and turrets from EVE orbit to Dusties for support
- Any other rumors/scuttlebutt regarding the New Eden setting and the EVE/Dust Universe and plans for the future.
For those of us who have been citizens of New Eden, Dust has been an exciting step forward, and one day CCP may allow our capsuleers out of the CQ and the Dusties out of MQ so that we may all hang out at a bar or something on a station (no weapons please). Anyway, as a community, we can help CCP by voicing our opinions about what we would like to see in the future for New Eden, and this game that many of us love. |

An interesting idea. Something that I have been thinking about is battle escalation when conquering a planet. Several of the first battles should be ambushes, leading to skirmishes, and concluding with a domination match for the skyhook (space elevator...whatever you want to call it). Adding several other types of battles, like the ones you discuss above, generates a sense of how these battles affect the standard citizen of New Eden. The key that CCP will have to develop, is NPC's on the battlefield, how they react, their AI levels, goals, triggers, etc. This is a fairly daunting task, I would imagine.
Something that DUST does not incorporate currently that is a significant game mechanic currently, is standings. This mechanic is something that should be evolving in the future. Any battle you fight should provide you with an increase with reputation for some aligned factions, and a loss for the factions that are opposed to your actions.
One of the big things I am interested in is how blueprints and gear will be manufactured, produced and researched for blueprints for DUSTie gear. Right now the only mechanic for that is with the capsuleers, and I don't see FPS players mining for resources to industrialize themselves. I think that the key for integrating DUST with EVE will be when the markets truly merge, yet the drawback is currently what (besides their meats) do the DUSTies have of value that the capsuleers need for an equitable exchange. ISK is the universal exchange form, but what can the DUSTies do to produce commodities that have real value to the market in EVE. PI commodities are the only answer that I can currently come up with, and until that becomes a much more valued asset, DUSTies will continue to exchange rounds for very little monetary reward. Once merc contracts become available from EVE to Dust, then maybe the ISKies will flow from the heavens. Right now, however, the current system leaves no real interaction between DUST and EVE other than orbital strikes. I think the key thing CCP needs to work on is making the DUSTies feel like they are citizens in New Eden, instead of a stranded side-note whose actions have little consequence to the New Eden Universe. |
