Planetside 2 maps, facilities, vehicles, spawn system, VR room. shooting mechanics (strafe speed, recoil, ranges, swap speed, etc) with DUST fitting system (resources lost on death, battlefield salvage, very nuanced options) would be everything I could have hoped for with DUST 514.
The only imbalance that really hurts in PS2 at is you need to unlock a competent AA fit which can take about a week. And merging 3 servers into one makes a lot of sense when you got 3 times the land per server with the introduction on new continents, and a 4th one coming soon. But I can jump in day 1 and have fun is PS2 and not feel noncompetitive until I've grinded for 6-9 months (assuming you didn't mispend in useless skills, making it even longer!) but there is still stuff to work towards. To say they lack diversity of weapons is stupid. They have more real variants then DUST does even including the tiers (standard, advanced, proto).
Oh, and don't forget PS2 http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap Roadmap program.
DUST has an "endgame" but getting to that point and even the endgame content itself is tortuously unsatisfying. PS2 lacks endgame entirely, but the foundation is rock solid with a few nagging cracks that they tell the community they are actually working on and when to expect fixes, and they are working on creating an "endgame" for PS2. I love the risk reward idea of DUST, but execution is so sloppy it is nothing but tedium unless you happen to roll correctly on FotM. |

Top features by month
- June - Community Grief Reporting
- July - Implants
- August - Player Generated Missions
- September - New Continent: Hossin
- October - Re-certification Item
- November - Continent Locking
- December - Class Update Engineer
That's a lot of good features, clearly laid out when they expect them to be worked on. Hey look at November! It's that continent lock that was so important to you. Maybe your favorite feature is delayed, but the fact remains they are consistently providing new content, iterating to improve the balance, and while you deride them for catering to the e-sports players, that's actually a huge positive because it adds more ways to play the game.
Features added since launch that I noticed immediately
- New continents
- VR training room
- New vehicle classes
- Lattice System
- Some downright fantastic cosmetic options.
- Global Missions (alerts)
- Test server
Yeah... PS2 is clearly dropping the ball |

Compared to what? Certainly not compared to DUST. |
