Hello!
I'm looking for a different weapon, mainly because I'm really bored of AR's, but also because I don't want to be mashed by LAV anymore, so I was wondering about the MD. I read this weapon had several changes and some players reported an issue with the "shell-explosion-smoke trial" sync that makes it feel "broken".
So how's MD?
Is it fixed now? Is it broken? Is it still a viable choice or just a complete, massive waste of SP (and ISK) and I'm supposed to be a masochist to put them into this weapon?
Thanks in advance for your opinions and inputs!

I'm a long-time user of the Mass Driver, and I want to tell you before you use it, it takes A LOT of skill. But I'm sure you could pull it off. :D
At Standard, it's kind of... What's the word... Ah, right: TERRIBLE. Splash is to low to hit anything that you don't shoot directly at the foot of, and it's still pretty hard to kill with then. You need to sink SP into the EXO-5 or higher to actually get any good kills. To me, the EXO-5 has the same stats as it was in Chromosome (Not sure), and I get a lot more kills with it. But it's still a hard weapon to use. You need to learn to calculate travel time, arch, and trajectory before you make your shot. Honestly, it doesn't seem that hard while you're using it, but that doesn't mean it takes no skill at all.
Another thing, aim at the feet. A lot of people will try to aim above the target, thinking they can use the arch and make a direct hit: That's not the case. Direct Hits are hard, even for a MD-Vet like myself. Just aim at the feet and let the splash get them. The only time you should worry about making Direct Hits is in CQC, and that's what the Breach is for. |

No problem. Good luck to you, in your future full of 'splosions!
BTW, forgot to mention. It's a Minmatar weapon, so it'll be good against armor (That's not a general RULE of the game, it's just what the type of weapon is... Projectile I think...), so if you pair it with Flux Grenades, you'll have a bit of fun. You'll also want to carry Nanohives, to resupply on a moments notice. Pretty much carry anything that will decrease how many shots you have to make. The Mass Driver burns through ammo. Fast. Mostly because the shots (For a newer user) are trial and error. Also, reload time is a bugger. WHY MUST YOU SPIN IT!? |

Practice and get used to aiming to miss at longer ranges thanks to the mismatch between where the grenade lands and where it explodes, Then re-learn how to use it when it gets fixed lol.
Also scouts can and will jump over your explosions from time to time.
Apart from that its my favourite weapon but I am overly fond of explosions apparently. |

I'd suggest to run a second character in the academy first to see whether you like the handling of the gun. If you're successful there and you're enjoying yourself you can commit to the weapon for your main character.
It's definitely a nice mix-up from the usual assault rifle, but lacks versatility. |

Don't waste your SP!
I have operation and prof 5 and it suffers a desynch bug, making it unreliable and won't be fixed until the next major update. It also suffered serious nerfs to damage, radius and an indirect nerf to it's field logevity when nanohives were nerfed. |

Fun weapon that is best in a group and not as a solo weapon. Can easily cause suppression and splash around corners but 1v1 against a smart scout is sometimes difficult. Having an AR buddy or even a heavy there to help makes it work wonders. It does require a different play and shoot style though from the AR, but will make your AR play that much better too. Give it a go on an alt but definitely don't try and use it until you unlock the EXO-5... the early ones are crap and will leave you hating the weapon before you really get a feel for it. |

I really enjoy using the Mass Driver. I am currently using the EC-3 which is low damage large radius. With this and flux grenades I get decent kills and a ton of kill assist. Definitely a weapon thats more enjoyable in a squad then alone. |
