Today, while being one of the "random turret blueberries" in a teammate's HAV (though I pride myself on shooting at actual enemies and not the invisible bats that plague some gunners), I noticed something I hadn't seen before: I took damage while acting as the front gunner.
While sitting in the front blaster turret of a Gunnlogi, we had a friendly LAV drive right into us head-on. It hardly dented the shields of the HAV but I noticed that I was down to about 50% armor. I had lost all my shields and half my armor from the impact (which I had the best view for, tbqh).
The second one happened in the same tank, same turret, but this time instead of a friendly LAD impacting the front off the HAV, it was a group of swarm missiles, and I took about 25% shield damage.
Is this something new? I hadn't seen it before (and rather like it, to be honest). Is this an old mechanic, or a bug?
Is there a way to hurt the top gunner, too?

I saw this happen today, got taken to 15 armour, hid in a friendlie's HAV and when I came out had 0 armour. But was luckily still alive. |

So all I'm hearing you say is that if I ram a LAV hard enough, I may possibly be able to kill the idiot in my front turret??? |

Back in my day , LAV's would occasionally crash into the tank and kill the front gunner. |

It's been happening since sometime in Chromosome, if I recall correctly. I know I seen a thread or two about killing the front gunner with LAV's a good while back, |

I died in the front gunner position once when an LAV ran into the tank.
Tanks just took damage but did not blow up. |

Gunner seats are dangerous mystery seats. No one knows quite how they work, only that blueberries nest in there and hibernate for years. |

Very true, could you imagine how useful a mobile CRU tank could be on a domination map if the buggers would just wake up and get out? |

I've died as a tank gunner to LAV crashing into the tank at least three times I can think of.
The funny part was, two of those times, the LAV that killed me was even on the same team. |

Yes, particularly the front gunner turret in an HAV- you can get damaged or killed. Happened to me, LAV rammed us, I was in front turret, I died. A few of my corp mates confirmed on comms that they had died before in the same situation |
