First, I'm not saying to work on these things instead of ironing out any remaining issues with basic mechanics... so direct your hate somewhere else.
However, we need to give people things to do. Even in a perfect world when PC is hopping the reality is that people who aren't in the upper echelons of their corporations and alliances will be left on the sidelines.
So, who has some MMO content ideas? I'll start with one or two...
While I like the idea of some PVE to mix things up it would be nice to be able to leave an impression in the sandbox without having to worm your way deep into someone else's corporation.
What about "permanently" linking an EVE alt with a DUST alt? You could pass goods and money back and forth. For example, your EVE alt could manufacture variants of DUST weapons that confer small improvements such as slightly lowered CPU or PG usage in a given meta level. Surely you've been one or two points out of the fit you wanted before? Of course, this is more of a sandbox issue if you have an actual player market in place already.
Alternately, what about fitting a module that grabs rare elements while you are not in the MCC? This thing could be some type of high tech nano microminer throwing rare and valuable elements into your clone for extraction to your vault during post battle bio-mass cleanup. You can use this material for dollar value or officer grade weapon manufacturing -- though of course it takes a lot of battles to acquire enough. It would give you a reason to get out of the MCC and it would give you something of value to use/sell if you had the slot for it.
Anyhow, I know there are people out there with better ideas than this... neither of these are really "leaving a mark" but instead influencing the interaction between players and games. So, let's hear 'em.

First, let more people in FW by having multiple battles at once on a planet, and of varying game modes. Instead of every battle being completely independent of each other, they should share several things-
All battles on the planet will share a very large clone count- if this is depleted, the team with clones left wins Each side has a finite amount of MCCs- like the clone count, a faction is forced to retreat from the planet if it runs out of them When an individual skirmish is won, the MCC will wait to engage the next enemy MCC
This should make FW battles feel more connected |

Also turn on friendly fire in FW with a "contract record": killing a teammate is -75 WP; assisting to kill a teammate is -35. Once your WP reaches -300, you're removed from the battle, and you get a red mark on your record
There are 2 types of marks, red (team-killing) and black (contract evasion) Black marks are given when a player finishes a battle with 0 WP, and also apply to instant battles (that you joined at least 5 minutes before they ended)
Marks effect 2 things: The % of ISK you get from instant battles (less marks, more money) Your ability to queue into FW battles (You're put in line before people with more marks)
And lastly, red marks are more detrimental than black marks
OFC, it's possible to spend a large amount of ISK to remove marks |

I like the idea of tracking known team killing and lack of activity. Even if only to show up on a players overview so that they can "name and shame" themselves if people bother to check. |

This thread will see much more well worded replies in the feedback section. You may wish for more exposure and possible support from a larger congregation of people, though, we should keep our posts organized.
Thank you and may you have a serene day filled with rhythm |

Roo, some things are relatively easy to do... tracking a few stats or allowing a player to gather resources don't necessarily involve graphics, complex computation, etc.
Free your mind. |

My point is, that at their current rate of development, it'll be years before they've even incorporated the basic stuff they've said was coming "soon."
Speculating and imagining other crap that we wish they would do is a bit pointless isn't it?
It was fun to talk about stuff like this a year ago, but at this point it just seems like it candy coats the bigger problems the game faces to act as if this sort of conversation has any real merit here on these forums.
Maybe I'm just being cynical at this point.
on a side note: you're one of the few people who've referred to me as "roo" even though that's supposed to be the actual name. "Baal" is a title, like "Sir" or "Mister." Specifically, it's "Lord" or "Master" in Ugaritic (a Hebrew derived dialect) and would historically have been written as Ba'al. Today we see it used most notably in Baalzebub (Lord of Flies). So, uh, good job. |

This should make FW battles feel more connected That's precisely the kind of thing that's needed if CCP want to make the average person feel even remotely connected to what's supposed to be going on. Some way to chart progress, track the current status of things.
When it comes to the attempts of CCP to implement events the lack of any means of tracking what's going on has been a major impediment, does nothing to spur on the notion that it's something players can try and influence, get involved with. I suppose that -is- largely because there has been no player influence so far, though, making it kinda moot. Whatever the tomfoolery with the Black Eagles was about, the Shiigeru crashing on Caldari Prime, the Templar Renegades... player influence on these was marginal to non-existent.
Never actually announcing them in-game didn't help either.
But yes. Telling people things. Charting progress, giving status updates. These things are good, even if they are completely illusory. |

You might be right. However, I'm not going to buy into any expectations so I won't be let down.
Besides, IRL, as a software guy, one my my particular skills is looking for key items that either drive better ideas or simplify what was previously a complex problem -- just about the only way to inject speed into an existing project (assuming it has the ability to adjust at all).
I'm not expecting to have any impact but it's hard for me not to throw ideas out. |

This should make FW battles feel more connected For FW I would like to see standards or banners, so that players can feel like a part of the faction, a player can fork out quite a lot of ISK for this vanity item which might take up a light weapon spot. These banners can be planted by players and stolen from players after the match. They could also be ransomed back to a corporation who had invested a lot of ISK and pride in the creation of a personal banner |

Btw, with my FW idea earlier, it'll also be MUCH easier to call in orbital support from eve players. I tried coordinating it with a friend today. He got to the planet I was on eventually, but the inconsistency of where the battles are made it hard to get to where I was at |

Stat tracking in a large sense would do a lot to improve replay as well as offering more interesting ways of looking at other players. Games like Gears of War and MAG did this really well with the medal systems. They tracked things like total first/second/third place MVPs (based on points scored, not k/d), times with best k/d, times hacking each type of point, kills with each weapon, head shot kills, tanks killed, etc etc. Gears let you choose a medal to display to others, so like a logibro could display having earned the highest tier of "hommies revived" or so on. Long term there could be cosmetic rewards to enhance the MMO feel. (Camo suits, gold hats, gold tools, camo guns, etc etc).
Also, in game, more information about teamates would be nice. Like instead of just basic [A] hacked/hacking scroll at the top (not the voice over) actually show the player name who did the hack. Ex: In a dom match the other day, enemy team held A untill MCC shield was down when I finally managed to flank, win a 2v1, hack, and drop relays and we held A the rest of the match. My first real moment in Dust of "okay I personally really swayed this match." I want to see other people's moments of glory, and I want them to see mine. Maybe at the end screen there is a page that shows a list of players that hacked each primary objective. One shot will change history right?
Character sheet should track wp/game maybe even / mode not just K/D.
Terms of EVE tie in, we need to have access to nul sec soverignty to really matter to the EVE universe. Also, I would really like a way to participate in fleet battles as a dust player, that would be pretty epic. Maybe introduce a mechanic where capital ships, instead of being out right destroyed when armor/shield are reduced to 0, enter a "crippled" state where players can elect to send in Dust Mercs to capture the ship (or just shoot it again to destroy it). This doesn't change the current battle system balance at all, as this mode happens after "destroy." By default all capitals have very potent AI guards maybe? Assault boats in general would be pretty cool... but that could really mess with EVE's balance (letting us board non crippled ships). Fighting on stations / moons / towers would be cool though. |

I don't think it's "artificial" as us immortals would certainly have time to be a pilot and a mercenary over the course of our careers. If you live forever you have to mix things up!
Why not let people play both games and interact between them? |
