75% of EVE players are that bearded guy still working part time at his original university computer science department who runs his PC on some obscure brand of Linux no one has ever heard of and makes jokes at parties involving convoluted PERL references.
He also thinks that humanity as a whole should not be permitted to use computers, only the High Priesthood. |

Yes. They are idiots and horrible FPS players as well. For some reason they really hate CoD and think bunny hopping and running around in the open makes Dust more strategic and tactical then CoD. They are really into RPG leveling systems as well. In their minds filling out check boxes takes epic mental prowess...also they think RPG leveling systems magically makes a game an MMO...even though 1000s of single player games have RPG leveling systems. Wizardry, Ultima and Bards Tale in their universe is a blind spot which they may never look...and therefor never existed. Inversely MMOs without RPG leveling systems do not exist in their universe either.
Then you know nothing. I play EVE and Dust and do better in DUST by far, I know players who have been EVE side for 10 years who player better than most of the DUST player base.
Fortunately for me I come from neither genre specifically. I've been playing CoD games on and off since Modern Warfare (not really enjoying them), Played MAG, played 3rd Person shooters.
I've also played games like Arcanum, Dragon Age, Tales of Symphonia and racked up hours on those as well.
You cannot generalise the populous of this playerbase as CoD Fanbois, Dust Fanbois, and Eve players.... that's ignorant and lacking real thought. |

This kinda view reminds me of Jane Elliott's experiment with segregating blue and brown eyed students, though in this case its got nothing to do with race, just an interesting parallel in human behavior. |

to be fair yes, but that doesn't mean they aren't really nice and really cool people, just if are not blue to them they will be more then happy to ruin your day and will find it hilarious.
EVE players get a bad rap for being cold blooded as ****, but the community by and large is one of the most welcoming and helpful I have come across.
any one who talks in local should be assumed to be a troll a local or an obnoxious idiot. |

Yes.
Think about the premise of the game.
You spend hours, weeks, months waiting on the game to tell you you're ready for something.
Then you spend just as much time grinding to afford it.
Just to have some dickhead come around, and take it from you without a single word.
No roleplay whatsoever to the douchie behavior either. At least not from what I encountered.
Found a blackhole, found an asteroid belt in that blackhole. Shortly afterwards I'm killed by a guy outfitted for war against my begginners mining vessel outfitted for mining. (No Contest, No communication, No extortion. Just attacked out of the blue)
That's my idea of fun.... NOT!
If I was to sum up Eve as simply as possible.
"It's a game to see who can be the biggest greifing douchbag"
Because that is the whole premise of the game.
How it manages to occupy the time of about 300k or so players and get them to spend money on it... is beyond my understanding.
My advice is to avoid it, because in all reality, it's not that great of a game. Unless you enjoy playing games that try to simulate an actual JOB. And if your get your kicks by playing a simulated JOB. You'd be better off getting a REAL JOB! |

As soon as I can mine asteroids, use these goods to build ships and other products, trade them, and then fly through space looking for trouble... then I'll make that my real job. Until then, I'll do some real world drudgery and fly through space for fun. |

Typically, online makes you anonymous. So when a person act like a Douche online. I don't care how "Nice" they are in real life.
Deep down they are douchebags. Their online behavior proves it. |
