In the dropsuit fitting interface, when creating a new fit, selecting a dropsuit that the character has insufficient skills to use results in the error message "Insufficient skills to use this dropsuit" and does not allow the fit to be created.
I find this strange as fittings containing modules the character has insufficient skills to use can be made. They are just invalid and cannot be spawned with.
As it would be nice to build "future", "fit testing" and "wishlist" fits to see how they stat out and how tight the fitting is and could be with better fitting skills (with the help of a calculator) before dedicating SP towards them, allowing the creation of deliberately invalid dropsuit fittings based on a dropsuit the character doesn't have the skills for would be a great help. |

Honestly I think this is something third party developers can provide. Eve players have third party tools like Aura for Android, Eve Fitting Tool, etc. There are even browser based tools that do the same thing. Even right now, DUST players have created a spreadsheet style tool that mimics the fitting window so you can try things out without spending any ISK. And this is without the API. One the API comes around DUST players will have unprecedented tools made available soon after. |

It still would be nice to be able to double check within DUST itself, especially if a recent change/correction/addition hasn't been accounted for yet in third party tools. While an API would alleviate this, it still happened from time to time with EFT and EVEHQ if memory serves.
Really, I'm just surprised that the Dropsuit Fitting interface explicitly does not allow you to do this despite still listing insufficiently skilled for dropsuits in red just like any other item you don't have the skills for, rather than not listing them at all. |
