I have been playing the SMG scout for a few days now and love it but i'm toying with the idea that going Minmatar suit was the wrong idea. I'm thinking that the Gallente would have been a better choice for the armor since most of the fight are in close range combat. I know that shield spec are fast but in general i would be faster than most suits anyways. What are yalls ideas on the subject? Should I switch over to Gallente for better up close survivability or should I stay shield and let the speed compensate? |

I figured lol but I just wasnt 100% sure the main thing that got me concerned was flux grenades. One of those thrown at a scout suit and your shields are gone. |

Dual Tanking is nice, but generally frowned upon. You get good speed, and you don't have the Caldari issue of, "Shield gone: Clone gone."
However, you get less eHP (Total HP). I'd suggest going with Dual Tanking, but get some survivability on your side. This included trying to get a kill in, running, and restoring any depleted stock/health. A good place to look is the 'Shotgun Ranger Scout' made from BSoTT (My Corp). The skills are trasferrable. |

Minmatars Scout base shield & armor(100S/70A) stats arent really setup for CQC...they are for sneaking around and taking the opponent by surprise, that is more Assassin than it is CQC....Gallente Scout(70S/130A) however would be more suitable for that role...they can take that corner for confrontation more aggressively...
Gallente base armor is much higher than Minmatars....Raise the maximum base HP by putting points into "Dropsuit Armor Upgrades" then put points into "Armor Rep Systems"...For the advanced scout suite u can Dual Armor Rep the 2 low-slots or for the Proto suite; dual armor rep, the first 2 slots and still have 2 more low-slots in which to work with(and not have to sacrifice your speed with the use of plates), and still have your high-slots for what ever damage mod u choose....
Gallentes tank will be much better for what your trying to do...Minmatars scout are bit on the glass side in trying to CQC |

I hadn't even thought about dual rep's, which is really sad because I fly a Ishtar in EVE. Well that solves it im going to go with a gallente build for my SMG scout. added bonus is the gallante's dropsuits look a hell a lot better anyways lol. Thanks for the help it much appreciated! |

I have the gallente scout. I use it for sniping and some CQB type work. I use the base armor and shield bonus skills with a catalizer and a shotgun. IME the smg doesn't put them down fast enough... armor doesn't make a difference at all. If you get caught creeping up you're done. Adv scouts this may be different. I'm not there yet. But I use the basic ADV LF I also unlocked to get to the scout as well and it fares a hair better with the quicker shield rec in hit and run scenarios. The smg is my secondary so I do use both. I save the smg for fleeing targets or a quick swap from an empty shotgun. It does not come out often. I get in f2f preferably from behind or the side and use the shotgun.
best tactic is circling a firefight between groups of enemies and friendlies and hitting them from behind. At their spawn. Or their resup points.
I always hit logi's and any light frame or basic suits I can first. They are usually a one or two shot kill. Heavies that aren't sentinels are also easy. But with the smg you have to square up and I don't. If you square up with the smg you are going to die.
Repeat: you are going to die.
Again I do use the SMG a lot on all fits. And you can win fights if you get a head start on the shooting. But running up on people with it or any group and your toast. I get a lot more leeway with the shotgun because people panic like crazy after the first hit and their HP is nearly gone. I would spec hard into the smg to reduce dispersion and kick. So its rof keeps your dps up even when hip firing. Because if you aren't hip firing as soon as they turn to fight you - because you are actively using your speed. You are going to die quickly.
The better suits should let you stack on even more speed. A stock scout is no and I mean no where near fast enough without enhancements to get in and out without getting hit in the time it takes to whittle down an enemy with the smg. The best scouts doing cqb are so fast you can't even aim at them. They are all over you and then gone before you know what happened. |

you do know there are 2 different distinct armors right? Armor Plates slow you down, Armor Repairs do not slow you down |

If anything thrown at your scout suit makes contact, you will die. The trick is to be sneaky, only engage an unaware target, and hope to sweet baby geesus no one's packing fused nades.
Tip from a fellow CQC specialist: The stronger your opponent is, the less viable CQC becomes. This wasn't always the case and hopefully won't always be, but be weary prototype mediums and heavies. These guys have ridiculously high eHP, so a perfectly executed sneak attack is not a guaranteed kill. Try tossing a flux first.
Props on choosing a challenging path. Best of luck to you .

One of those thrown at a scout suit and your shields are gone. That's why you Are a Scout. You can dodge those Things. But for me, I use Med Frames, and going 100% shield tank, SUCKS. The only way for me to survive, as I don't think the Shield Regenerators Help at all.
As My own Personal question, If I don't want to Use any Armor Mods, what Mods to fit in Low Slots, cause I don't want any Movement Penalty (Yes, I know that Feroscale Plates are Coming. I just don't want to wait for the Infamous SOON that Plagued DUST for all those Months of Beta)
But Since your a Scout, You don't want to throw your Speed Bonus away, Right? So, yeah. Shields all the way |

Shield Regulators don't do anything inside the battle. They simply reduce the time between battle and Shield Recharge. For example: You used to have a 5 second delay between exiting fight and regenerating Shield. Now you have a 3 second delay. It's subtle, but there.
And yea, like I'm pretty sure I said before, all Shields is stupid. As stupid as ever. Once your Shield is gone, you're gone. Dual-Tanking for Scouts. |

Shield extender plus armor repper. I-Śm playing the Minmatar suit atm and you can just fit shield extenders onto it. Gallente would be Dampener, Cardiac, Kinetic, Rep. As standard fit.
