A lot of people want dropship stuck in the support spawn role only. Why this is a bad Idea and not that useful even when we get big maps.
If dropships are going to be a viable part of PC matches, Corps vs Corps in the future. They need to have the fire power to be useful. Let alone defend themselves. They need to be able to kill a AV person as quick as AV can kill them.
Now why it is bad to make them support spawn systems only. Well Because we got drop uplinks. No matter what someone says drop uplinks trump dropships every time. Cost is alot cheaper. Spawning on uplinks is alot faster. and they are very spammable. You can have every part of the map covered without much effort.
With this possible why waste a valuable gun spot to fly a dropship. When any member can call in a free dropships get accross the map throw 4 or 5 Uplinks around the objective and near it. No more worry about AV chasing it away.
Dropships need to be a spawn unit that can come in on a hot spot drop it 5 guys off and then have the gunner give support.
A lot of people talk about how dropships are fine because they had there gunner get 20+ Kills. Problem is your in a pub game. Oh yes I agree you can pub stomp pretty easy in dropships against militant and standard gear. The thing is PC/Corp matches are all proto gear based. Only way people get kills in this with a dropship if someone already nocked the shields of the enemy. So they only have armor left.
If CCP wants Dropships ever to be a truely valuable corp tool. It needs to be able to dish out damage with small turrets and make its self a threat in the sky.
I do not want a oneshot miricle weapon. But a ship once maxed out is able to to deal with infantry faster then a pimped out infantry player can. It needs to be effective so you can provide quick support when landing in hotspots and relieve some of the infantry pressure on your infantry before you have to get out because of AV.
Tanking them out will just keep them in the useless category because AV will still be able to deal with you easily because you have no defense. And why waste a spot on your team with someone who can not kill and is just a flying AV target when you can bring a extra gun. And just use the easy to deploy drop uplinks to get what you want. |

Nothing beats a drop ship that can drop you behind enemy lines, swoop in and provide covering fire, pick up a whole squad of guys and drop them off at the next objective in quick sessions. Oh wait that's PS2 . But I find a drop ship with blaster turrets works best against infantry because how ****** the turrets are due to hitting the drop ship and resetting. But you have the assault drop ship for fire power and soon t be bomber drop ships too lol |

they do, its called assault DS or a good gunner, I know several guys. AV guys should be able to kill vehicles easily but not PRO vehicles, they would need a team of PRO AV or a vehicles itself to destroy.

uplinks can`t move across the battle field which will be big, + Logi DSes are a role so its not all of them, beyond that its the pilot who chooses the placed CRU module.

your limited to uplinks, they are easily found and destroyed and are limited to 1 place, a Logi DS can go anywhere quickly making it the better spawn.

this will change when we get ADV-PRO DSes and PRO gear WHICH BETTER BE SOON! because I must agree atm this is nonsense, give AT LEAST all ADV vehicles next build. |

Also
I think heavy dropships more fit into what you're saying. Maybe have two guns on either side, instead of one, and their can be two people firing their weapons from inside (one on either side, in between the turrets, forge guns rock the ship somewhat when firing) More HP, slower, bigger target, better resists, something along those lines.
It's not so much about getting there first, it's being unstoppable once you arrive |

Dropships have a major problem at the moment.
They're slow.
I don't want to see a return of the old "fear the sky" Dropships, but they need way more acceleration from my experience as a passenger. They don't seems to be able to get out of trouble. |

I think dropships should remain as troop transport vehicles with limited fire power. You want more firepower in the sky? Well then wait until CCP releases jets and heavy aircraft.
I personally think the whole concept of a bomber dropship is destroying the dropship's original purpose. I think jets should have the capability of providing air support as well as being capable of launching offensives at ground targets.
Same opinion goes to the assault dropship. The heavy aircraft, whatever they might be, should be for close air support. I wonder what concept art CCP can produce for a heavy aircraft with a large turret?
I myself will hop into jets as soon as they come out and experiment with different fittings. I think a jet with small railguns will be a tanker's worst nightmare!
As for dropships, I think they could use a little more health. Railguns take out most dropships in one or two hits, and I definitely don't imagine it being fun to crash and burn moments after you take off. Also more health will allow dropships to drop and pick up infantry in more dangerous areas. |

All that is needed:
*buff small turrets, fix their bugs, and increase range *make Assault variants travel faster *Tweak flight mechanics so as to allow stable flight (attempting to land or hover over enemies) |
