That is what we currently call the Consolidation Matrix.
We are making more things kind of like that in terms of game play. Interior, but not quite interior, more vertical gameplay, etc.

There are a couple reasons why we do not have multiple sockets near each other in the scenario you speak of.
-Depending on the size of the socket (S,M,L) we have a blend area that is not allowed to have static meshes (objects) in them. The distance is big enough to be noticeable that there is a lot of terrain between them.
-All sockets have a radius that load / unload the high and low LOD. We use a point system for each socket size and those radius when intersect add up. If we have too many things loaded at once it will kill the framerate. So for an example, we usually can only have 1 large and two medium with in a certain distance of each other where their radius intersect. If we even introduce a small into that scenario that the radius intersects with that large and the two medium at the same time, then it will be too heavy on hardware.
-Because of our system, it is also not best for us to place meshes between sockets that would some how visually connect them, because those may not connect visually. If we create an area with Caldari based models on the terrain to connect, and the sockets that load are Gallente, then it would just look wrong. |

Use it to house for objectives on more maps, dooo it. Less tables and more consolidation matrix, I have matrices that I need to consolidate.
Haha, on our backend, I am not sure what entirely is holding it back from coming. Its a medium socket, so you will only see it where medium sockets are. That is not a lot of gameplay areas right now that do. I am also not sure what is happening on the back end that generates the "random" load of it. I can speak with one of our TA's this week though and see if it had a number messed up some where. We had a similar issue with certain gameplay areas showing up more than others and we found that. So we might be able to do the same with the Matrix so it is more fair in its loads. |
