At least a full 8 hours a day if not more. Being a developer isn't as easy as many think. I know because I work alongside developers in a different industry ;) |

Hard to say, they might be punching the clock but it feels like very little work is actually being done unless something goes wrong with the server I get the feeling there is a distinct lack of management and the team is left to its own devices which leads to them not really working hard at all
I mean seriously, 4 years in development and some core art assets such as oh I dunno more than a third of the drop suits only being at the concept stage is ridiculous |

8 hours a day is standard workday for majority of the game development companies.
And for whiners, they just make community team's job more exciting :D |

I programmed a robotic arm to draw Wall-E, it took three hours and over 300 commands. I pushed the start button and it shoved the maker into the table and broke it in the first 3 seconds. It then took me two more hours to find a correct the problem. It is not as easy as people think to create a stable and working complex system that has to deal with changing conditions and thousands of users over the entire globe

They work very hard but people feel like they do very little because we don't see much information as we would like. I feel as though people would be more supportive if the developers gave us dates for updates and patches, even if they have to push back the dates the community likes to know when they are getting new content. It also doesn't help that we still have issues/bugs from closed beta that still haven't been fixed and its been 4 or 5 builds. |

Agreed, the problem is perception. I also believe that the community is too harsh and have knee jerk reactions that lead to rage posts that in turn cause the devs to be hesitant on making posts and time lines. Lots of these post go straight to name calling and logical fallacies instead of outlining actual problems with the game in a meaningful way.

I don't think is a problem with how many hours a day they work, ( i'm pretty sure is alot ) the problem is with "delivery"..it seems to me that they have LOTS of projects, but no one that focus in one single thing, for long enough to finished. |

Seems like only a few people work on lots of problems and those fixes cause more problems and the SONY has to validate it. To me, it feels like a lack of personal, they know what they want and how to do but they have to choose what to spend the resources on after reading all of our posts and researching the problem. In my eyes it should take about a month to find, fix and release fixes for one problem or set of related problems. They also have to test in house. We are at week 4 so we should see improvements very soon. |

40 hour weeks are in no way typical for games developers. It is probably much closer to 60 or 70. If you want to be considered a "hard worker" as a games dev you'll need to be putting in 12 hour days plus week-ends pretty much constantly.
They seem to be gluttons for punishment and accept things that would be considered completely unacceptable in other fields.
I've had a few conversations on the subject, and they (and their management) don't seem to get the idea that tired programmers = more mistakes = slower progress overall.
So, while I'm not saying that we should assume the Dust devs are particularly productive, I think its probably fair to say that they do work longer hours than most. |

I'm not an English professor and I never claimed to be. I can tell by your post that you have no idea what you are talking about. You are just another troll that post off of feelings. These types of posts are counterproductive and only hurt the game and waste time. I have no doubt that you beat homeless people for their pocket change because if you choose to spend you time trolling a game you hate and think will fail then you must not have a life. It's old and boring.
Post like these do not help, do not encourage progress and they take the few hours you think they work away from the people you are complaining about. Stop trolling and start trying to give feedback. I understand if you are upset about progress or lack there of but this post doesn't help at all.
I am still curious about your job, instead of insulting me and trolling maybe you should think. I don't know why I even responded to this but for some reason I did and now I regret it the time lost to you. Grow up and be a big boy. |

Its not the hours/day thats the problem, its the days/year.
Don't they take off something like 100-150 days a year on holidays in shanghai? Its nuts! Every other announcement post seems like its a "Taking next week off as part of the xxx holiday" |

Lol, learn to relax man. No need to fly off the handle on a video game forum, I can obviously see that this game is a big part of your life and that you struggle with sarcasm, too many people freak out over the stupidest shat. And as for my career, I am a successful gynecologist. |

That's the worst part. I come here to relax and try to help with game that is bleeding out and I can't find one post that isn't a pessimistic troll. I would like a great book but it would just get trolled even more than the hole I'm in now. Gynecologist is super funny, it made me actually laugh out loud. |
