The idea would be to have a group of people (ideally people who play dust) to go and look at the things you're working on and prevent you from doing something silly or that screws up stuff for the players.
Let me list a couple of examples of things you guys missed: Let's start with the templars. First you gave them a paltry 2.5mil sp. While this is a lot better than what you guys start out players with, it left the templars really underpowered against guys with, say, 10mil sp. Then, you gave these guys no money with which to buy skill books and what not. So, 2.5 mil, 10 mil, 276 bil, what ever the sp you get them to start with, it was kind of useless to the templars.
This forced a lot of templars into ****** fits in the first few games, before they could actually pay for the books they needed to properly fight.
This, combined with a few other things made for an event that was really just a minor foot note, and was really only notable as a few guys walking around in different colored amarr suits.
A way around this would have been to give these characters pre-built skill sets. This would have taken a lot of the work out of it and given players the ability to just jump right into the fight and start the event.
A second major oversight, and generally stupid idea, was completely rebalancing and recoding everything 4 days before launch.
Some of the things you changed are still broken, like sticky walls, injector issues, mass driver problems (last I heard, at any rate) and so on.
You did all of these changes and still never released a full set of suits (only 1 heavy, 1 sentinal, and 2 light & scout suits) and only vehicles for 2 races, and even removed the marauder class entirely.
There also the impression that you guys don't at all test out some of the things you do before you launch it into the game. An example of this was the tar. The design of it, and now the burst, had a abuse written all over it. It was a cool idea, but the implementation wasn't very well thought out. There are also these new armor plates (ferro and reactive) that are supposed to fix armor tanking. I was looking at the numbers on another post and they didn't really compensate for how much better shield was.
Over all, I feel like you guys need some serious oversight on the things you do to your game. I find it hard to believe that you test out most of what you do, and implementation of things is painfully slow. Over all, you guys need another, small group that looks at things you're working on before they get put into the game, like events, rebalances, and so on. |

Im not sure if thats on the remit for the CPM as its still in its infancy. What I am suggesting would be a bit different that the CPM What they do is provide a group of player elected representatives to talk to CCP about the problems we are having. This would be a group that would look at things before they are actually implemented. The CPM, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't do that. What you're saying is a good idea. I'm not trying to be obtuse, but believe me when I tell you thats exactly what the CSM does. If you don't believe me read the meeting minutes which are freely avaiable on the EVE online forums. CCP frequenty asks the CSM about upcoming changes and they get a say on how its implimented. I am not nor have ever been a CSM, so I can't comment on how much ccp listens to the CSM. But the whole "going in to the game" and "checking things out to make sure it works" is something the CSM already does. Please believe me, I'm not saying, what you are saying is crap or anything. In my opinion the CPMs role is presently unclear and yes I agree with you. What you are suggesting is what the CPM should do. No need for fancy titles or extra SP. That opens a whole can of worms in relation to percieved unfairness and developer/player collusion, that is damaging to the game.
Then we are, at least mostly, in agreement. I don't really know much about what the CSM does, but the CPM doesn't seem to have much say or anything in the patches and such before they are released, and we desperately need that.
I also agree that granting these people extra sp would be a bad idea. Special titles, maybe.
One thing they could do is grant them some special characters that would be used for testing things. These characters would face certain restrictions, like only being able to fight in pub matches and not be able to join player corps, and would be changed around by the devs to reflect the things they want to test. An example would be like building the test characters up for tanks, and av. This way, they would get to test the balance of them.
Then, provide these players with a special arena outside of pub matches where only they can go to test out certain things (like how many hits to take something down).
Either way, the devs need more direct input than they are getting from here and there needs to be more testing and vetting than there already is. |
