I think players and news outlets are a little confused. They keep saying PS4, PS4 has nothing to do with PSN other than it is a gateway connection to content. PS and PS+ are part of the PSN system and therefore means that changes to the PSN subscription model will apply across all hardware that gets content from the PSN.
Therefore, while the games specifically mentioned in the IGN article are specific to PS4, Dust is not, therefore CCP will still have to confirm or deny that they plan to include Dust in the PS+ subscription model. GM Hercules has already posted in this thread, but has only said that the article the OP is pointing to is not an OFFICAL PSN article. He however, did not confirm or deny whether or not players will be required to have PS+ to play Dust later this year. Additionally, IMO, his tone (or perceived tone) suggests that Dust will in fact require PS+ to be accessed. |

Please note the description of the account: Quote:Unofficial Twitter updates on PlayStation 4. By Gamers.. for Gamers. We deliver no nonsense to our followers. So in other words DUST 514 is not going to be moved to PS4 anytime SoonGäó. You can read a very interesting interview that digital spy made to our chief marketing officer, David Reid here I really don't think the PS3 has the length of life left that you all for some reason think it does. For one when that interview took place David could not have been aware of the PS4's $400 price point. Which unfortunately for Dust will produce Many early adopters ready for a next Gen gaming experience. You may have as much as 8 months post release before we see upwards of 50% of that 80million user base moving to the PS4. Even if you only lose a 3rd of the current playerbase during the initial months of release, Smart money says you'll have lost 50% or more by the 6 month mark. If you all are serious about a ten year game it's time to start working on the PS4 Now. Like it or not the PS3's life cycle is nearing it's end, and no matter what content and shiny new fixes you add to Dust it will not compete for the attention of a PS4 player while remaining on last Gen Tech, period.
I agree, PS3 is a 7 year old console. People were ready for new consoles, 2 years ago, when it should have been done. I would say that CCP needs to really be talking to Sony about Pre-Orders, the number of people who are pre-ordering means that those people aren't very likely to turn back to the PS3 for many games. I would also recommend that CCP setup a poll, that could be done in game upon login. Let it run for a month or so. As soon as you log in you get the popup and you can't move forward until you select an answer, kind of like the EULA deal. This means that people logging into the game will be voting on whether or not they plan to move to the PS4. In the voting I would probably give 4 or 5 answers, Yes, No, Yes at release, Yes - Within 6 months of release, and Yes - in the first year. This would give a good measuring stick as too how many players intend to buy and when they plan on it.
David Reid is probably a smart guy, but this isn't smart marketing and these new consoles aren't just Next-Gen, they are the next evolution in console gaming and console technology. There are 5 Gamestops within 100 miles of me. I called everyone of them today asking about Pre-Orders. Between the 5 stores they had a total of 400 XB1 available, and those are all sold and they had a total of 450 PS4, which were all sold. My local Gamestop had 60 PS4's and they all sold on day one. If each store in the US alone has 60 PS4s for pre-order and each store will sell those long before release, that means that in the US alone, just in Gamestops, that's 266K units sold. If just 1% of those buyers are Dust players, then that means that 2,660 people will have purchased a PS4 and that would mean that almost half your player base will own a PS4. Which in turn means that for a period of time there will be 50% fewer players in Dust.
If you want to attract players to Dust, then PS4 is the console to do it on. |
