Let me start by giving credit to Fox Gaden and his article on SMG . I love using the SMG and for new characters is very easy to get a great setup right off the bat. All together i spent a total of 534740 SP with a new character. So just a little more SP than you start with, but after you play the matches to get the isk you need for the books you will have plenty of SP. So this is what you will get....
Scout M-1 Breach Submachine Gun x 2 Basic Shield Extender x 1 Basic Armor Repair x 1 Militia Kinetic Catalyzer x 1 Militia Locus Grenade x 1
Break down of skills
Breach Submachine Gun Weaponry to lvl 1 Sidearm Operation to lvl 2 Submachine Gun Operation to 2
Scout M-1 Dropsuit Command to lvl 2 Minmatar Light Dropsuit to lvl 3 Minmatar Scout Dropsuit to lvl 1
Defensive Modules Dropsuit Upgrades to lvl 2 Dropsuit Shield Upgrades to lvl 1 Shield Extension to lvl 1 Dropsuit Armor Upgrades to lvl 1 Armor Repair System to lvl 1
WIth this you can start along a path of pure fun, making people think twice about ignoring the little guy shooting his side arm. Its a great start for anyone who wants to zip around the battlefield and do a lot of damage. Now you don't have to use two SMG's you could use one and another weapon like a shotgun or a sniper rifle. The double SMG is just my preference it has gotten me thru a few fight I thought I wouldn't. Due to the fact that switching weapons is a lot faster than reloading. But like i said it up to you. There is one thing tho you need to focus on, once you get you basic setup, and thats Submachine Gun Sharpshooter. Get this up ASAP give you a tighter shot group, that translates into more rounds hitting their target. Now suit up and mow them down. Happy Hunting! |

I've never been a fan of the Breach SMG, give me the Assault any day. Other than that you have a legitimate build. The best thing about running twin SMGs is it gives you time to train other skills.
I suggest getting Grenadier lvl 1 and getting flux grenades, they complement the smg well.
Only charge in when you know their shields are down and at any lvl this is a very good setup. |

I definetly agree that the assault is better, I was just try to make a build designed for the new player. Something they could get right from the start, well a few game to pay for the skill books. I'll have to add a section with future skill to the guide. Thanks for the insight. |

Toxin SMG is not so different from a assault SMG. The proficiency skills is what makes a SMG good though. You can still run STD smg if you have proficiency 5, to save money.
Would recommend new players to go for an assault suit (Probably militia minmatar) to start with, if you are going for the SMG.
Focus on getting better shield extenders, core skills up and running. Instead of getting a suit specialization, use those points for shield extension 3. Do not fit damage mods. This is a lot of bang for the buck. Tank is way more important than dps when learning the game.
I think of the SMG as the "main" weapon you will be using for a while. Then you can get a secondary light weapon like swarm, plasma cannon, mass driver. This is why you run assault/scout and not logistics suits. Weapon diversity. |

Hi, I like your idea but your setup is kind of expensive SP and ISK wise. I would suggest (gonna try this on a new alt tonight) :
Weaponry to lvl 1 Sidearm Operation to lvl 2 Submachine Gun Operation to 2
Dropsuit Command to lvl 2 Minmatar Light Dropsuit to lvl 1
Defensive Modules Dropsuit Upgrades to lvl 2 Dropsuit Shield Upgrades to lvl 1 Shield Extension to lvl 1 Dropsuit Armor Upgrades to lvl 1 Armor Repair System to lvl 1 Dropsuit core upgrade to lvl 1
Cost is around 250k SP and let's you use the rest of the base 500k SP to up either defense or offense (or maybe go the way of the biotic upgrade to gain more speed). Using an M-1 light frame instead of the M-1 Scout would'nt make a big difference "scan profile" wise and makes you gain an extra mid slot (one extra basic shield extender would add some buffer). Anyway thanks to the OP for the great base idea. |

Thanks for adding my guide, it was your guide that got me started on the SMG and I can't stop. |

Tried this on an alt character(while my main awaits his skill reset) just now and it is a lot of fun. Never tried SMG's or Scout Dropsuit's before and the mobility is just awesome. He isn't out of the Academy yet, but sneaking round and flanking people who don't even know what is shooting them is fun. Or cooking a grenade and gifting it and running away real fast. Total blast!I won't be deleting this alt! Thanks! |

I may be imagining things, but as a scout, I noticed that SMG fire somewhat slows down the movement of people you shoot |

EDIT: I'm out of Academy and doing respectably. Was able to take out a few heavies surprisingly, with some dirty tactics lol... I think what I really find nice about this is it is forcing me to think outside the box on my encounters with enemies. Do I want to charge straight ahead and die or circle around using some stealth and pop out with a grenade then finish em' off with a quick burst. So far it has been working really well(though I did get repeatedly murdered by a guy with a plasma cannon lol).
Glad you like it I have been playing it more and more over my mains assault build. One thing i did notice is you have to sidestep your targets most of them we switch to scope view when shooting. This drastically slows down there traversing which the scout suit takes full advantage of. |
