Oh god. I don't want to imagine a heavy with a forge gun using their jet pack to fly around my tank.

I love the idea, but everyone seems to hate it without even considering that it can be balanced. I would make it equipment so it can't be used with guns, and susceptible to swarm launchers, and limited fly time before needed to cool down.

I would actually prefer an infantry warpdrive pack; equipment that you aim at direction, charge it, and it teleports you like 100 feet whatever direction you pointed to (even up in the air), should be really loud, and have overheat. Different variants could have different jump distances, overheat rates, cooldown rates, charge times, and noise levels.

The warp pack doesn't fit lore, eve has it but it can be made to work on anything smaller then a battleship yet. Maybe in few years after they have made smaller ones to frigate size in eve we can get them.

Jetpack would be better balanced as s suittype or as a light weapon.

It would be easier to balance jump packs, difference being rather then allow flight they boost jump height and allow some direction control on the decent.

You had me a bit confused because frigates can warp... even shuttles and pods. Do you mean the micro-jump drive? That allows the battleships to instantaneously jump 100km in the direction it's facing after a period of warm-up time on the MJD.

Its because when people think of a jet pack they think of the following

 -infinite fuel
-the weight of your suite wont factor into thrust or fuel consumption
-Flying monkeys from the wizard of oz
 -extensive cpu or grid useage

Eh... they weren't great in HALO, so I don't think they'd work great in DUST either. Flying is basically painting a huge bullseye on your chest or holding up a sign that says "Look at me! I can't strafe quickly and can't control how fast I fall! You've got all the time in the world to hit me!"

I support this idea, but as I've said before, I think this should be a dropsuit, not necessarily a module.

Taking an equipment slot would make the most sense to me.

Jetpacks would be fricken awesome. Im thinkiong more a jump back than a jet pack, with a limited thrust time and a cool down.

They also have to be sufficiently difficult to fit. Otherwise could end up a mess.

 Simple balance,
10 second flight with a single boost available, can not use any equipment or weapons while flying. Highly vunerable to AV.
Also it would be pointless for the jetpack to be deployed by an RDV so why not have a sort of in-game pitstop that grants you a jetpack for lets say 30k isk?

I'd suggest the mechanics of it are such that 1) Heavies are too heavy to lift off, 2) Light get best benefit out of it,
 3) It's attributes are based on a factor of your movement speed. (aka armor wearing suits would go slower / not as high)
 4) Large PG usage, and reduces shield recharge rate.

--Generally units with Jetpacks are exceptionally vulnerable, compared to similarly armored units, and survive more thanks to speed tanking than any buffer of their own.
--A unique dropsuit specialization for them would be best.
--Perhaps give them movement schema while in air similar to an Assault Dropship.
