Hey guys,
For the past few days I've been working on optimizing the DUST 514 Forums. This morning I deployed few fixes that should add performance when listing up forum topics among other small things.
I would love to hear your feedback on your experience using the forums in terms of performance. There will be more optimizations coming out soon so hopefully the overall experience will be better.
Thanks!

Next on my list is to eliminate zombie threads (should also fix the "Fail to post"). I assume most of the 404's are coming because of them? Can you give me some way of reproducing a 404?
You should be getting notifications on subscribed threads, at least I am getting them just fine. Hmmm! |

After going through many errors logs and drinking at least 2 coffee cups I believe I've found what's causing the problems. The zombie threads are related to the 404 error.
I'll hopefully deploy some fixes tomorrow!
And, of course, thanks for all the feedback! :-) |

These changes will be merged to the EVE forums once I've got most of the defects fixed! :-) |

I've just deployed more fixes. Let me know if you spot new zombie threads or if the 404 page is still showing up for no particular reason.
If you get the 404 page then please try to explain what you were doing :-)
Thanks! |

These changes will be merged to the EVE forums once I've got most of the defects fixed! :-) Thanks for the info. The changes are an improvement for sure. The Eve forums have been taking a long time to load for a while now. It will be interesting to see the results when we deal with all the long threads on EVEO. Any way we can have all dev, GM and CSM posts drop into the notification system. So we can know when they post. It will cut down on the refresh load on your web infrastructure. Are you dealing with the Wiki project at all? If so I have some questions.
Hey there, thank you for the feedback. I'm not dealing with the Wiki project but if you have some questions I'd definitely ask on the EVE Forums. I'll let the guy who's in charge of the Wiki forums know about it. |

Jathniel wrote:You've been doing pretty good on the forum optimization.
I haven't seen it "forget" everything I type, for a long time. But I still have the habit of copying my entire post before hitting "Post".
Otherwise, it works great. Also, like being able to see who likes your posts. That networking can keep relevant threads relevant, and can somewhat reduce redundant threads, since people who post on it or like someone's post on it, can essentially revive that specific topic.
That's great! Thank you :) |

I use Chrome (for PC and Android) most of the time for browsing forums but last time i was left with PS3 browser only. Overall navigation experience is fine. Except those two things mentioned earlier.
Is it possible to use my "PS3 credentials" when i am signed in to PSN for automatic DUST forum log-in? What about this? Still can't log-in to DUST forum via PS3 browser
I'm looking into it right now!

Aww, thank you for the kind words Aeon Amadi!
On another note, I've fixed the PS3 login issue. I will very likely deploy the fix after the weekend!

A new DUST 514 forums build was deployed today.
We're working hard on cleaning up all the JavaScript mess on the forums. If you notice any weird behavior then please let me know on this thread! This is our first phase of cleaning up the JavaScript mess. There are more to come and we're doing this to prepare the forums to become responsive.
Rough changelist:
- Javascript cleanup phase #1 - more to come!
- Added like throttle system to stop people from farming likes
- Added link to the Settings page on the character dropdown menu
- Added correct background color to the notifications and settings pages
- Updated the reply notification so that the notification link takes you to the new post
- Jump to next dev post link has been changed so that the browser scrolls down to the next dev post if it's on the same page, instead of redirecting you to the same page again.
- Guests can now see how many likes posts have
There are some other minor changes which are technical and should boost performance.
Thanks!

Lt Royal wrote:Seriously what's going on with the state of the forums? The whole thing with quoting boxes not being displayed correctly ( see this post for one example) is really getting on my nipples!
The BBCode on the forums have always been very fragile. The list formatting on that post was causing the quote to show up incorrectly. Just make sure the list and /list are not inline with other text.
