The reason they are being so cautious now is because of the backlash they got when they let stuff slip that didn't actually come out or came out different from what they said.
This is why I want them to just have fun with their communication with us, because we will never be happy no matter what they do, so they might as well be happy instead. |

So you're implying that when you write DEVELOPER blogs, you are not actually aware of what your company is doing/going with the game?
So you are implying that you write stuff which are still on 'maybe, not sure' - level?
This in a DEVELOPER blog.
Call me crazy but I thought that DEVELOPERS would know the state of the game.
Is there lack of information between the departments and if yes, why?
Yeah I know, but FoxFours post just sounded... I dunno. Stupid. |

there does feel to be a lack of communication about 'simple' things... such as the respecs(still waiting after 4 weeks...) that caused massive issues with the first 'batch' and then not a word from CCP aside from 'next batch' and 'very soon' ... yes, i was told on the 28th via petition response that the next batch of respecs was coming 'very soon'... and have tried pointing out the complete lack of any communication... a tentative schedule that can be adjusted as things happen would be nicer than sitting with a thumb up my ass wondering when i can get back the 1.3m SP i wasted on amarr logi to realize it was a trap... maybe even an indication as to which batch number i have to wait for?
extended downtimes is another issue that could go for improved communications... we dont usually see any notice except for in the middle of the night for many of us, 1-4 hours prior to the extension... i could be mistaken, and i dont work at CCP, but i cant imagine that theres no more advanced notice than what we have been given... something posted end of shift the day prior would allow us to at least glimpse over what changes might be coming rather than simply 'SURPRISE' when we log in next... and i have been on to see them get changed and revised multiple times, problems come up, plans change, but whats the drawbacks between 24 hour notice and 1-4 hour notice on something small such as this?
DEVBLOGS would be nice for the big things, but its not only 'promised devblogs' that feel like they are less transparent than many of us would like...
and as for the HYPE that hasnt been delivered... MEANINGFUL EVE-DUST connection... ECONOMY... INDUSTRY... DRONES... MCC COMMANDER... this is all content that cant live up to the hype because it has yet to be delivered... most of which has been word of mouth documented from YouTube and parroted from FANFESTs... its difficult to convert others to the game when the hype CCP makes isnt provided... to have to tack on disclaimers that the games not finished... even though weve already hit the commercial launch... and you cant honestly say the competitors arent aware of these pending features, throw us a bone... give us the initial and vague theories you guys are mulling about internally with massive disclaimers that they arent finished, but at least that they are being thought about, or back-burner'd to focus on other priorities... |

Not sure how to respond, but I shall try one line at a time:
Quote:So you're implying that when you write DEVELOPER blogs, you are not actually aware of what your company is doing/going with the game? No, not at all. What I am saying is that while we are working on a feature that feature can change. Sometimes we will develop a feature and in the end find out it is not very fun and so we don't put it out. Or maybe we work on a feature and are unable to solve a massive defect with it. Or maybe we develop a feature and are just not able to get it done in time for localization/code freeze for that release.
What I am saying is we work in an agile development environment and that means while we set some goals at the beginning of a release saying "feature X, Y, and Z will be ready by date A" is incredibly hard.
Quote:So you are implying that you write stuff which are still on 'maybe, not sure' - level? It's a development blog, we try and write about things that are still in development not things that are out. As I pointed out above this means that sometimes we are unsure if a feature will make a specific release.
Quote:This in a DEVELOPER blog. Indeed.
Quote:Call me crazy but I thought that DEVELOPERS would know the state of the game. We do our very best to, but that does not know we can predict the feature. Problems come up, things change, maybe we realize things are not fun, whatever the problem may be sometimes we are not sure if a feature will be ready for release.
Quote:Is there lack of information between the departments and if yes, why? It's not about that. We only write dev blogs about things we work on. You won't see a dev blog from me about the balancing of equipment/modules or about level design. I don't work on those things.

My apologies. I am trying to make up for it with this thread: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=86799
The original point I was trying to make, and you are write it was probably lost in the text, was just that at least in the case of my dev blog we just needed to wait a bit longer for confirmation that what we were talking about was going to make it in. |

A lot of us don't care about a dev blog. I just want a damn response from a dev of when the rest of the sp respecs are being deployed. Any news on that, Fox?
Only reason I'm hijacking this thread is because the other sp thread can't seem to get a dev to even look at it. |

Lovely FoxFour, in my humble opinion you going in the opposite direction from where you need to go. I hear that you have been burned by the community for statements that later turned out to be not true. As a software developer and occasional project manager I understand agile development and how changes are inevitable. But reducing your communication to avoid risk is not the way to go. You'll alienate your patient, understanding customers, and the immature, overly entitled rabble will riot regardless of what you do.
The solution is to be freely expressive with us, not just in casual chatter, but on substantive issues. And then be even more prompt and expressive when you find that things have changed. |

The apology thread is a nice touch, but i have no relevant input as i dont participate in PC... if there was only more SoxFours in the other teams.... or maybe i just dont notice them as much...
and i understand to a degree you dont want to release more hype for content that wont be making it into the next expansion cycle, as i am lead to believe, most of the major content changes cant simply be hot-fixed into the game and requires some sort of interaction with SONY to be implemented, meaning you cant release it a week or two late like in EVE if it just barely missed the cutoff.
but at the same time though, theres a lot of features that i listed that they have no problem revealing at events such as FANFEST, but then we are left in the dark... you tell us you have ideas and plans of greatness, and then we are left to ponder... im not asking for exact figures and dates, or precise mechanic functionality... but more 'hey, [our team] was working on this awesome stuff, we cant give the details but heres some teaser content for the next expansion cycle or two'...
and for things like ECONOMY and INDUSTRY, theyve mentioned these, at the DUST keynote and economy presentations if i recall, these are long term things, but you tease us once and then leave us with blueballs... the way they made it sound, these features are not coming any time soon, but are staples of the games final form... i doubt that there is a high priority on these, but someone somewhere has information on what they want to do and i would like to know how its planned... cause currently i cant see any sensical plan... the meta levels are not linked, meaning EVE will have to add a whole new set of industry mechanics to support DUST, giving them even more SP Sinks when DUST needs the diversity to support its own industry, to provide something other than combat role 1-24(3 suits x3 vehicle class x4 race), not to mention EVE-based industry will prevent DUST from persisting should something tragic happen to EVE... turning DUST into little more than the worlds largest cross-console MINI-GAME... rather than being able to stand next to EVE as a meaningful extension of the New Eden Universe... |

It feels like you don't have a 1 year plan let alone a 5 year plan. Things change so fast you don't feel like we need to know what you are up to. That's another thing..
Who's the lead developer and what department is he in?
I know that CCP Unifex was Senior Producer for Eve Online for the past few years and.things were amazing, but now CCP Ripleu has taken the reigns.
That's what we mean by transparency. We have no idea who half of the devs are, and any time one posts in the forums sometimes were like: "Who's this guy CCP Clorox? What the hell does he do around here?" |

Well, an innovative game should have innovative features sooner than games that don't, imo.
I mean, if they had this roadmap out there on day one people could sit down and say "Well, at least I only have to wait 'x' months until MY feature comes out". In my case, it's the Gallente Heavy and some form of Hybrid sidearm that isn't Caldari make... I feel dirty every time I use an SMG and I feel traitorous everytime I use Nova Knives.
But, beyond that, it'd be nice just to have stare down the eyes of a Caldari Logistics and not have the constant thought in the back of my head: "He's got 600+ shields and more mobility. I'm going to lose this fight." |

A road map would only make more people mad when it doesn't happen. We say that we just want to be heard then we cry because what we demanded isn't in the game in the amount of time we want. Half the people on these forums don't read enough of the post to even understand it. I have read post where the same question is asked over and over even though the answer is clearly stated in the post above. The community seems to take ideas as promises and usually can't even stay on topic without flying into a rage ruled rant.
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=933525#post933525
We complain about open communication but yet half the community doesn't come to the forums and then only half of the ones that do actually provide feed back in a way that isn't insta-trolling, flat out insults or written so poorly that it is unreadable. I hope one day that all the people who post these post get treated the same way by their customers for things that are extremely difficult to control or predict.

Instead of rudely commenting to the your pubic, CCP, discuss with yourselves how you can give information in a more beneficial way and then do it. At this point, it shouldn't be to large of a mystery on what needs to be done to fix Dusts major problems. After all, you've had a year of beta testing to figure this stuff out.
If these problems are still secrets, maybe CCP should hire a new team of Devs that can fix the problem. Square Enix had no problem doing this when Final Fantasy XIV was a failure. If the dog can't hunt, you need a new dog. |
