I understand the road map and the proposed longevity of this game, which I am behind 100%.
I can understand how people don't feel too rewarded for playing, especially those who make the comparison between ISK gains whilst AFK vs playing in a battle.
I wouldn't want to unlock everything in a couple of weeks but most people don't have the patience and don't want an FPS to be a grind-fest, which I also understand.
The problem is that I guess, as well as DUST following EVE in having a large skillset (to say the least) CCP want it to take ages to unlock everything but people don't have the patience.
I know CCP want DUST to be complex and deep like EVE and perhaps fear that once people unlock everything, they will have nothing to play for. But here's the thing. Many FPS games aren't complicated, people still play them. Because they're fun.
Make your core game addictive and people won't care about unlocking a new gun because they're happy with what they've got. Games don't need to change to be consistently fun.
But how do you win? You want to try something different, don't want to cater to the casuals but that's how a game succeeds these days. I just really don't think the grind model suits an FPS. There is a rift in players which needs to be closed. Unfortunately, if you want your game to succeed commercially and financially you have to compromise.

True dat, look counterstrike, **** graphics but amazing gameplay
I always hear "stupid lag" & "stupid glitch" when people die but I never hear "these graphics are rubbish" or "why hasnt that hill rendered"
Gameplay makes da game bruv |

innit ;)
Exactly, people don't have to be constantly looking for something new, if they are it means they don't enjoy the game that much.
Don't get me wrong I love the fact that I can unlock so much stuff and there's always new things to unlock. I just think that there should be a fine balance between catering to the masses and pursuing and individual dream and CCP seem to have scared too many people away from the grinding; but this is what they want their game to be to tie in with EVE.
Like I said, you can't win really. although that's where their business model comes into play, slow progression, dedicated fans, slowly increasing the playerbase. but this is a console market and it's an FPS. It doesn't play out how it would on PC being an MMO.
and that, is the DUST problem. |

I think the balance should be determined by new player retention. Obviously the only people who have complete and quick access to these figures are CCP, and maybe Sony, which is only right.
If CCP looks at these figures and over x amount of time they find that they loose most of their new players during the Academy Stage upto 1 month after leaving the academy then the balance for the skill tree is wrong.
If on the other hand they see over this period an acceptable, as determined by CCP, number of new players staying then they probably have the balance at a reasonable level.
The problem for us on the forums is that we see the vocal minority with no real idea at what figures CCP are looking at when they make their decisions.
My personal opinion is that they need to redefine the skill tree so that it is quicker to become competitive but have more depth downstream after reaching ADV fits, modules, weapons etc.
However, many argue that the current SP setup is better than any alternatives that result in people being able to skill into new weapons etc at a quicker pace. For all I know they may be right as only CCP knows the truth about player retention.
I actually think the complexity and depth of the skill tree is a good thing but it needs to be balanced to ensure that new players also have a fun and rewarding experience while they wait to compete with the, skilled, vets. |

I wish DUST's game play was as smooth as that Titanfall game play demo. |
