All the appearances of an activity poorly planned, insufficiently tested, ongoing lack of communication and laughingly supported.
There really never is a good time to test in production. What? Pretty sure the DDOS attack put a halt on all other concerns, plus newly found bugs and other gameplay issues that need attention. Getting your free optional respec is last on the list of "to-do's". Any reasonable person would realize this...
Any reasonable person would realize that respecs will most likely be done by a script that just takes a list of account names as input and ends up freeing up all allocated skillpoints while removing skillbooks, etc, in the database of given characters.
I doubt that it will take more than one click from a GM or database guy during downtime.
Do you really think that a real DEV is needed to do so? One of them probably wrote the script and now has enough time to fix bugs or go on coding new stuff... |

If it was really this easy to perform this task, why would it be delayed? Why would they wait? Why not just have a script auto complete the task as they come in if it's so easy? What does ccp gain by not doing it in a timely matter? Obviously, they would want to avoid the ramblings and complaining of forum tough guys who know how to run companies better than them. Whom constantly whine on their forums that they're incompetent, don't care about their player base and cant tame three time to respond to the thousands of "where is my respec, it's been 29 minutes since I've submitted it?".... Or maybe it's not as easy as you say. It's a free game, you have no entitlement. It's also their property they lend you for consumption. If you are no longer happy stop playing. If the way they run their business is not satisfactory to you, feel free to leave.
They are unable to perform all respecs during one downtime because the databases are cleared from fragments during downtime. It's pretty difficult to work on a database and create new data when the same database is currently cleaned from fragments and busy processing requests. Would just result in a huge mess. I guess they perform a small batch in the few minutes they can add to the downtime without making people go more nuts than they already do.
I payed for my EVE-O sub for more than 10 years (as many others here, as well). It's more than possible that some of that money initially financed Dust.
Further I find it very funny that you assume I wasn't happy with Dust 514. You must have more knowledge about myself than I do. |
