Do i need to say more?.... CCP Dust 514 needs to go to the PC. Now these guys know how to do things right.
They don't need all the people in the world or the hype or the flashy "C suite" titles. They get on with it and release things when they are ready.
Unlike the disrespect shown to players who actually gave CCP money during the dust beta based on hype they knew to be bogus. |

U do realize that the SteamBox is Linux based? So check http://store.steampowered.com/browse/linux/ and see how many and what games u can play out of the box.
I doubt that any big publisher, will jump on the steambox train anytime soon, since Valve has to first establish a good/large install-base. It will take quite some time and money from valve to get even a fraction of there AAA/AA catalog running on it. |

Dust goes to PC. AND GETS BEAT UP BY THE SUPERIOR FPS GAMES THAT MAKE UP ITS HOME BASE. If dust is looking to just find a niche pc crowd like eve, and get all the accolades that eve gets, (like what a nerd to a nerd is to a normal person) the ok. but break FPS boundaries? lol
$1000 rig. Really? and for what? RTS? korean mmo? tower defense games? indie games? Oh wait the console ports right? (We all know how console to pc ports are treated)
Many high end rigs with all that power are used to mow the damn lawn. I play FPS games and horror on my sexy rig. cause consoles can't compare to those. But everything else on steam? That's why play my ps3. and next ps4. |

OMG, here we go again.
The 'Piston' is not THE Steambox!
The 'Piston' is not even A Steambox. It is just a project Valve had some financial involvement in. It is a small, expensive and fairly weak PC that can run Steam like every other PC can. |

"Valve's Steam Box will be a gaming machine first, optimised for Steam - and the service's recently introduced Big Picture mode that pretties up its UI for TVs - but unlike other consoles, it won't be a closed system."
The Steam Box will be an "Open Source" system... any manufacturer will be allow to make their own version. And is definitely not restricted to Linux.. as an "Open Source" any Operating System can potentially be run on it.
Is the future of gaming .... Consoles days are counting down to extinction. |

U realize there is only one "open source" operating systems that runs on x86 hardware atm and its ofc Linux. U think Microsoft will license Windows for something that may rival there XboxOne? Android may be ported to x86, if Intel pushes into the Smartphone/Tablet market with there upcoming low powered x86 CPU's, which might be more attractive than Linux.
Ofc given they use "regular" PC hardware and bios, the end-user can always acquire a windows license and reinstall it, but thats simply not a good out of the box experience and i think defends the purpose of a steam gaming box, since u end up with all the problems u have with a regular gaming PC. I also don't think Valve's goal is to embrace windows as-its "defacto" target OS. So as long as game developers wont adapt Linux/Android for x86 system as there target system, the idea of the steambox will remain a niche product in gaming. |

You have to look at Valve philosophy of " Free for all ", to understand what they trying to do. For example; The Source Engine in Counter Strike is an " Open Source " in which everyone is allow to create their own Mods, skins, maps.. and so on...sometimes even full GAMES. The idea of having an " Open Source " gaming console, is going to appeal to small companies, hardware developers, computer manufactures... maybe even Game Developers ( EA Steam Box ? )...Trust me, THAT is the future of gaming. |

I fully agree and i'm also a fan of the idea of any lesser restrictive open-source project, but i'm simply skeptical and pessimistic that given the only valid choice of Linux as its OS, it will be very hard to convince game developers to port/develop a Linux version for a rather small install base.
I could be proven wrong ofc, since Unreal4 and Unity4 already have Linux/openGL support, so if Tech5, CryEngine3/4 and all the others are also coming with "easy" Linux support out of the box, developers might simply package and compile a Linux version, because "they can now".
We will see :p |
